Cordelia Lyra Malfoy had always been different from the rest of her family. Her family were blood-supremacists who tried to teach their views to their children. Cordelia never believed with their views and would be punished for it.

With each passing day, the state of the world was becoming more and more dangerous to be in and everyone was on high alert. Muggles were being attacked in broad daylight and people were constantly going missing. Nobody knew who would be next, and everyone feared that their loved one would be next.
Cordelia and the twins returned to the flat after Bill and Fluer's wedding and attempted to return to their normal way of life as best they could while taking extra precautions.
Protective enchantments were placed on the flat and shop. No one was able to access the flat without direct permission from Cordelia, Fred, or George. The shop was still open, but only customers with no ill intent were able to enter. Those with ill intent were met with a nasty prank. Cordelia had always known that Fred and George were excellent with magic and often surpassed everyone's expectations, but this magic was much more advanced than they even realized. She was very proud of them.
The three of them decided that none of them would leave the flat or shop on their own, especially Cordelia, who seemed to have a target on her back. Traveling to St. Mungo's for her work was the only exception. She still used the Floo to attend her shifts, though she didn't know how long it would last.
Snape became headmaster of Hogwarts and attendance for this school year was mandatory, unlike before when parents could choose to homeschool their children. Cordelia was worried for Ginny and the other returning students, and anxiety rose in her chest every time she thought about it.
The Ministry enacted a Decree requiring all Muggleborns to submit to questioning. Kiana's name was on that list. Fearing for her life, and the safety of her Muggle family, Kiana and Lee went into hiding together. On the last day they were together, Cordelia gifted Kiana an enchanted diary that came with an identical twin so that they could talk back and forth. Adele's name would have been on that list, but the Greek Ministry of Magic had granted them asylum, and she was safe. She and Adele used their connections in Greece to secure protection for Kiana's parents and brother, temporarily uprooting the family.
Diagon Alley felt practically deserted nowadays as people were either missing, in hiding, or too afraid to be out longer than necessary. Ollivanders remained empty ever since the owner had been kidnapped. The joke shop was still open, but the twins rarely had customers and they were getting more business through mail orders.
One dark evening, Cordelia and Fred were walking down the empty street together after checking on Madam Malkin, who owned the robe shop.
Cordelia had her arms crossed over her chest as the couple walked, with Fred staying on high alert with his wand out. The couple stopped when they saw a group of men gathered near a building's wall. Cordelia now had her wand out and Fred looked around for a place to hide, but it was very open where they were. The men were looking over some papers, so the couple hoped they could pass without gaining their attention.
