A Little Cinderella Moment

Chapter 24

The school day could not finish quickly enough today. I had three more encounters with Candace warning me to stay away from what is hers. That just pisses me off when someone is claiming another person to be their property. Luckily, Jen, Selena, and Greg were there by my side to tell her to back the fuck off. Since Marine Biology, Greg has quickly become a good friend of mine and I have promised him that I will get him and Jen alone so he can tell her how he truly feels one day. 

As I reach my car to go home as I have a huge report to write up for Marine Biology, Jen approaches me. 

"Hey, Sav could I grab a lift home as Chase bailed out of school sometime today and we carpooled, and I've got no way to get home." Why would he do that to his sister? Why would he leave her stranded at school? 

"Sure, climb on in but I won't be taking you home we're going to find him as I want to have a word with him because of his behavior today not just to me but to you as well." 

Oh yeah, Mama Bear has come out to play. Chase Lockwood is not the only one who is protective of his friends and family I am too. I may seem like the shy new girl but when it comes to people, I care about I am not that shy little girl who clams up into a shell. 

"Any ideas on where he could be?" 

"There's only one place he will be." I look at Jen so she can tell me as I've only been here two days. "The beach." 

Jen directs me to the beach as I have never been here before, and I know I will be making regular visits here as this view just from the parking lot is so beautiful. Sitting here at sunrise and sunset with my camera at golden hour would be perfect one day. 

I park my car and we both get out the car scanning the beach for any signs of him. I can't see anything from up here I need to down to beach level. 

"There he is out on the water on his board," I turn and look at Jen in confusion. 

"He surfs?" Well of course he surfs, he is built like a Greek god fast on land flies on the sea. 

"Of course, he does what Californian doesn't." She laughs and makes her way down to the shoreline. 

I'm a few paces behind Jen as she leads the way towards Chase. I thought last night we were turning over a new leaf and now I feel like a big fool for believing him. Jen leaves me behind as I just take a seat in the sand. Taking my sandals off I feel the warmth of the sand between my toes and as I look out at the horizon the breeze blows gently around me, wrapping around my body and I know that my mom is here at the beach with me. Bringing my knees up to my chest I wrap my arms around my legs feeling a tear run down my cheek. "Hi, Mom." 

Lost in my own moment I forgot where I was when Chase stood next to me drying himself off with his towel, looking down at me seeing the tears run down my cheek trying to catch his breath. "Savannah is everything alright?" I look up at him is everything alright?! Is everything alright?! Is he joking? 

I stand up from my cradled position dusting the sand off my ass, "I don't know Chase is everything alright? I wasn't the one who bailed, I'm the one who stayed, I'm not like you the going gets tough Chase goes running." I start to walk away and head back to my car, but I am stopped in my tracks when Chase grabs my arm stopping me and turning me around to face him. 

"Savannah what are you talking about?" 

Without knowing what I was doing I raise my hand and slap him across the face and now the tears are free falling down my face. "After last night I thought you had changed, I thought we were more. All because I sing a song, I promised Selena I would sing for her one day you shake your head no at me and bail. So, what if it was a love ballad for all I know it may have been about you but now I know different." I remove my arm from his grasp, "You have been such a prick to me today treating me like a piece of shit on the bottom of your shoe." Wrapping my arms across my body holding onto my elbows "I deserve so much better."
