Dad's face lit up like it was the fourth of July, it's the same face he gave me when he told me about his promotion, and he wraps me in his arms and hugs me.
"Oh, my baby girl I am so proud of you that is fantastic news we must celebrate tonight, after dinner, we are going out for ice cream I don't care if you're too old for it now I want to celebrate your success."
"Thanks, Dad I like the sound of that, and I know just the place too it's this little ice cream parlor I saw down on the pier at the beach they have a sundae called the brownie exploder."
"That sounds like an ice cream I could enjoy too." He smiles at me and squeezes me as I'm still wrapped up in his arms. I turn and look over Dad's shoulder.
"Toni you're more than welcome to join us if you would like."
Dinner was delicious, one of the best pasta dishes I've eaten in years. Once it was all cleaned up and dishes and cutlery put away in the dishwasher it was time to go for our celebratory dessert.
Toni declined our offer to join us, she said she would rather call it a night and go to bed and read a book. It would have been lovely if she joined us, I don't want to leave her home alone when there's amazing ice cream on offer. But she did say bring her back some fudge and that is what we will do for her a whole pound full of fudge.
Dad and I decided with it being such a beautiful night we would walk to the parlor as the beach is not that far away from the house. The clear night sky and seeing the stars makes me feel a little back at home. The only downfall is because we're in the city we don't see as many as we would round the fire pit singing songs and having an enjoyable time.
We reached the pier, and it was still a little bit crowded for it being after seven. With my arm hooked in the crook of Dad's arm, we walk towards the parlor to only run into the guy I have been avoiding all day. Chase and he's with some guys from the football team and a small group of girls.
"Sweetpea look it's Chase I wonder how he's doing. I heard Stuart was in a rage of anger on Friday because of something he did at school." I look at Dad and smile sweetly. Oh, trust me Dad it wasn't just what he did at school it's what he did after too. Chase spotted us and said to his group of friends to go on ahead and he will catch up with them.
"Hi Mr. Blakemore, hi Savannah how are you this evening?"
"We are very well thank you, Chase we're out celebrating some great news Savannah received from school today." Chase looks at me for the first time since I slapped him on Friday, and I quickly look somewhere else but at him because I'm still hurt with what he's done to me. I don't forgive easily as he knows, and he played me like the idiot I am, and I fell for it.
"What news would that be? I've not heard anything Jen didn't say anything to me." No shit she's promised me she wouldn't tell him anything if it was relevant to me.
"Well, my little girl here has been considered for a scholarship at Berkeley University for the music program." Dad squeezes me into his side with his proud smile plastered on his face.
"That's fantastic congratulations Savannah, I know you will excel in whatever you do."
"Thanks, Chase that's nice of you to say."
I just pray my dad doesn't invite him to join us as I would not be able to sit there with an ice cream listening to Chase trying to play nice with me in front of my dad. And before I could say anything, Dad does what I didn't want him to do.
"Chase son, would you like to join us we're going to the ice cream parlor to get their brownie exploder you're more than welcome to join us." I will be polite to him for Dad's sake I don't want him to lose his job because Chase hurt his baby girl.
Chase looks at me and smiles "I would love to join you and luckily enough a friend of mine from the football team is working there on shift tonight, I might get extra brownie pieces in for you." With him still smiling he winks at me thinking he's going to win me over with extra brownie pieces in ice cream sorry to disappoint you Chase it's not going to work today.
We walked together to the parlor and Chase opened the door for my dad and I to walk through, the place looked bigger on the inside than it does on the outside. It reminds me of a 50's diner. With neon lights scattered across the walls, it gives the place a nice glow to it.
I let Dad and Chase walk to the counter to order our ice creams, I'd rather stay near the exit for a quick getaway. I seriously can't deal with Chase and my dad right now, if they talk about business, I can understand that but Chase trying to win my dad over to get close to me he can forget it. Dad asks me if I want hot fudge on my ice cream as I approach them.
"Um... no thanks Dad I'm okay thank you." I stand on the opposite side of my dad so Chase can't look at me as I watch our desserts get made. Once our ice creams were made and presented to us Dad went to take out his wallet from his back pocket.
"I'll get this one Mr. Blakemore consider this my treat, and you can surprise Savannah another time." Unbelievable he's trying to get me to talk to him with brownies.
"Why thank you Son that's mighty kind of you."
