This kiss I am sharing with Chase feels different somehow. It feels like it means forever. The start of forever. I hope this is forever. When we break from our kiss, we sit there for a couple of minutes with me cuddled up in his arms and my head resting on his shoulder watching what we can see of the fireworks through the trees. This night might have started off as a shit show and could have possibly been the end of us, but it will end just as we both hoped it would. Perfect.
Once the fireworks died down, we stayed sat in silence for a little while just taking in the beauty of our surroundings. Sitting here in his mom's secret garden makes me think. Has he ever brought any other girls here or am I the first?
"Sweetheart I can hear them thoughts running wild in your head. Stop them please I know what you're thinking, and the answer is no." I didn't think that out loud again, did I?
"No? No to what?" He couldn't possibly know what I was thinking could he?
"No, I have not brought any other girl here. You are the first and the only girl I have brought here. With the exception of Jen of course but she doesn't count." I laugh over his little joke about his sister, but it is reassuring that Chase hasn't brought another girl here. It just makes this space, and this moment feel more special to us as a couple.
After a little while longer just having time alone together we decided to go back and rejoin the party. Walking back hand in hand it didn't take Jen long to find us and embrace us in a hug. Telling us how worried she was when she couldn't find us during the countdown and how Chase wasn't there with her to celebrate the moment, they both entered into this world eighteen years ago. Chase tells her where we were, and her face changes from worry to pure delight. She went on saying how much that place means to her and their mom. How when they were younger, they were always hiding or having some magical adventure in there.
Chase goes on saying about how the magical adventures was not him and he would never do anything so girly in magical lands and have magical adventures. Jen folds herself over laughing so hard over the blatant lie her brother sprouted and that's when she whispered to me, she will get her mom to show me the photo album. Hearing Jen say that Chase was teasing her just as she was teasing him.
Watching these two together does make me think how it would have been if Mom and Dad had another child so I could have had a sibling to tease each other like these two are right now. But now is not the time to dwell in the past, I know how hard it was for them to conceive me, and they almost gave up hope. I could always wish about how it would have been and with that wishing I make a promise to myself that when it's time that I have kids of my own I would not let them be an only child because they deserve to always have someone to turn to just like how Jen and Chase are to each other.
While these two are still squabbling as siblings do, I tell them I'm going to go grab a drink. I don't think they heard me because I get no response, so off I go alone to get myself something to drink. Pouring myself a cup of punch Dad walks up beside me and embraces me into a hug.
"Happy New Year baby girl," he kisses the top of my head as he squeezes me as close to him as he can.
"Happy New Year Dad, sorry I wasn't here with you to bring in the new year, but Chase and I had to talk."
"I heard about that phone call," I look up at him wondering how he would know. "Chase told me everything whilst you were singing sweetpea," Okay, now that makes sense. "I'm happy that you went and had a talk and by the looks of it everything is good between the two of you."
"Yes, everything is fine. We talked, we asked questions, we answered questions, and we cleared the air between us. We both have said we are now no longer going to let that girl come between us ever again.
