Waking up with a blanket draped over me and Chase's arm is one of the best wake ups I could have had to start off the new year. Sitting up slowly I look around the room to see Chase is still asleep Greg and Jen are cuddled up together under a blanket asleep and the same goes for Selena and Lucas. Needing to use the bathroom I try and quietly pull out of Chase's arms to fail and be pulled back into him as he snuggles up to me. I never thought Chase would be a cuddler never mind a snuggler.
Laughing as Chase nuzzles into my neck, "What are you doing? I thought you were asleep," I asked him.
"I would have still been sleeping if the most beautiful woman didn't wake up and move out of my arms where I was the most comfortable," Chase says still sounding half asleep.
"I didn't want to wake you. You were so peaceful sleeping I didn't want to disturb you."
"You may not have wanted to have disturbed him but you two have disturbed me with your cutesiness it's early in the morning and you know I can be a cranky bitch if I've not gotten enough sleep so sush please," Jen said.
"Sorry Jen," Chase and I say in unison as we hear Jen's breathing even out, so we know she's gone back off to sleep.
"Seriously Savannah, why are you awake this early?" Chase checks the time on his watch to see it's quarter past six in the morning. "We only fell asleep maybe four hours ago, you must still be tired," He's not wrong I am still tired but as that old saying goes, when you gotta go, you gotta go. And I need to go. So, I whisper in his ear why I'm awake and he begrudgingly let me go to the bathroom.
Coming back from the bathroom I curl back up next to Chase, and he snuggles me up against him again as I drift back off to sleep with a smile on my face. Waking up a couple of hours later I feel more refreshed than I did earlier but this time something feels different. Sitting up and looking around I see I'm alone. No Chase, no Jen, no Greg, no Selena, and no Lucas. Where could everyone had gone? Checking the time on my phone it's not even nine o clock yet. Where the hell is everybody?
I wrap the blanket around my shoulders and go in search of everyone as surely, they couldn't have gone far. Walking toward the kitchen I start to hear a lot of voices, I guess everyone is having something to eat then. Following the sound of the voices I come into the kitchen to see everyone looking at me from either the breakfast bar or the table in the corner of the kitchen.
"Good morning, Savannah dear, would you like something to eat?" Mrs. Lockwood asks me standing in front of the stove frying up some bacon by the smell of it.
"Good morning, I would love something to eat thank you," I say to her as Chase walks up to me, kisses the top of my head, and hand me a glass of juice.
"Sorry I left you sleeping sweetheart you looked too tired I didn't want to disturb you," Chase says as he walks me to the table where the other four are.
Taking a sip of my juice after sitting down with the others, "It's fine I needed the extra sleep but thank you anyway, and Jen," She turns and looks at me with her mouth full of an omelette, "I'm sorry I woke you up earlier too with my laughter it was not my intention to wake anyone."
Swallowing what was in her mouth she tells me "No need to be sorry about that, it was just gross hearing that early in the morning you two love birds all loved up that early after falling asleep what four hours prior. It's fine honestly, I had Greg snoring in my ear. Oh, and Lucas?" He turns to look at Jen wondering what she has to say, "Did you know you talk in your sleep?"
Lucas chokes on his drink and starts having a coughing fit, turning red in embarrassment while the rest of us laugh over how he reacted. Greg was in denial of snoring and Lucas was in denial of sleep talking. Chase places a plate of food in front of me, it's loaded with sausages, bacon, eggs, pancakes, and fruit. He sits down next to me and tucks into his own food before confirming what Jen said is true. Chase even gave an example of what Lucas said the night the boys stayed over when I had my party. Selena asked what did Lucas say in his sleep and what Chase said next I could not believe it.
"Lucas said in his sleep Selena you look so beautiful in purple and lace I cannot wait for the day where I will see you wearing white and lace."
Jen and I swoon over that comment, Greg snickers quietly earning a smack across the back of the head from Jen, Lucas goes bright red from embarrassment, but Selena asked Lucas if it was true or not. Lucas couldn't answer if it was or not as he said he was asleep he doesn't know if what everyone has said about sleep talking is true or not. Greg mentioned about an app that records you as you sleep so if you were to sleep talk it would record you and what you say. Lucas looks up the app and downloads it and we sat there and enjoy the rest of breakfast. After we all ate the girls, and I help Mrs. Lockwood clean and tidy the kitchen whilst the "men of the house" start taking down some of the big sets outside from the party last night.
It didn't take long for them to take down some of the big stuff out back before the cleanup crew came to take down the rest of the stuff. We all decided to meet up at the beach later to spend the day together before school starts again. As Selena said taking in all the sun's rays before we got too busy to enjoy the downtime. Selena and I wanted to go home and get our bathing suits and shower before going to the beach and I promised I would go and see my dad for a little bit too.
I took an uber home even though Chase offered to drive me home I declined and told him it was no point going out of his way to take me home, to drive back home, to then come back passed my house to go to the beach. It took some time for him to see my reasoning, but I finally won. I got home and went straight to find my dad and see what his plans are for New Year's Day. But when I walked into the house, I was surprised with what I could hear. Why am I hearing a guitar?
Looking around for my dad following the sound of the guitar I come to the yard and see my dad sat next to the pool playing my guitar, but that's not what has me in shock. Who is the woman with long brown hair sat in front of my dad with a huge smile on his face as he plays 'Brown Eyed Girl' by Van Morrison?
I stand there and watch my dad playing and seeing him happy. I've not seen that smile on my dad's face in years. The last time I saw that genuine smile was before my mom got her diagnosis. Just seeing that smile makes me smile he deserves to find happiness again. Standing in silence just listening to my dad sing to this woman is a sight to see so I wait until he's finished to make my presence known. The song ends and the woman says to my dad "Oh Max that was so beautiful, I love you."
"I love you too Hazel," Dad leans into her and gives her a chaste kiss on her lips. Did my dad just say that he loves her? What I don't understand is how come he's not mentioned anything to me about this. Or the fact that he's not told me he's dating again.
"Max, have you told your daughter about us yet? It has been three months now and I would like to meet her. Ideally before she goes off to college," wait what? Three months? And he's kept her a secret from me?
Dad sighs rubbing the back of his head as he lays down my guitar on the floor by his feet. "I have not yet told Savannah about you. She doesn't know that I'm dating again." He says looking guilty. I don't know why he's had to hide this from me. I know Mom wouldn't want him to not move on with his life because she's no longer here, she would want him to be happy. He deserves to be happy.
"You haven't told her?" Dad shakes his head looking disappointed in himself for keeping this from me. "When are you going to tell her?" Well, I guess no time like the present.
"How about now?" I say as I step out of the door from where I was standing and walk over to my dad.
"Savannah?" Dad jumps up from his seat when he hears me and sees me walking toward him. "What are you doing home so soon? I wasn't expecting you until later on this afternoon," Dad hugs me as I come and stand next to him.
"That was the original plan but we're now going to have a day down the beach instead. So, I've came home to shower and change before meeting up with the others. And I hear you out here playing my guitar to a woman." I turn to look at the woman who stands up too.
She looks gorgeous, she has brown hair, gorgeous chocolate brown eyes and a smile that could melt icebergs. No wonder Dad is smitten with this woman. "Savannah, I would like you to meet my girlfriend Hazel," Did he just say girlfriend?
Hazel holds out her hand for me to shake I smile at her and shake her hand. "Hi Savannah, it's so nice to finally meet you. Your dad has said nothing but wonderful things about you." I can see why Dad is attracted to her she seems very relaxed and easy to like.
"I wish I could say the same about you Hazel," I tell her. "I don't know why my dad had to keep your relationship from me because I can see how happy you make him, and that's all I have wanted for him for some years now so I would like to thank you for putting that smile back on my dad's face."
"Thank you, Savannah, hearing that coming from you means a lot to me," She holds her hand out to my dad, he happily takes it and brings her into his side. "It means so much to us that you accept this relationship."
"Hazel, I only care about my dad's happiness. I was scared about him being alone when I go off to college and now, I no longer have that fear so I will be forever grateful to you for being in his life."
"Thank you, Savannah."
"Please call me Sav, only my dad and my boyfriend have ever really called me Savannah," I joke with Hazel, and she agrees to call me Sav from now on.
We all sat down around the table in the yard with a pitcher of lemonade as Dad and Hazel tell me how they met and what they plan to do for the rest of the day. I stayed with them for maybe for an hour before I texted Chase telling him that I got caught up, but I would explain everything when I meet them at the beach. I shower and change quickly, inform Dad and Hazel that I was heading out and I would see them later.
Before I headed out the door I shouted back to my dad, "Don't do something that I wouldn't do," I hear them both laughing as I walk out the door and go and meet up with Chase and my friends.
