Parking up in a car park we climb out of the car, Chase walks around to the trunk and pulls out some blankets, a box of battery-powered candles, and a wicker picnic basket. We started walking down the pathway to where we are going. It is a short walk before Chase announces that we're here. We laid down two of the blankets and Chase set up the candles before sitting down and opening the basket to pull out what was inside. Inside the basket, there were a mixture of sandwiches, a cheese platter, a mixture of fruit, a salad bowl, some fried chicken, and some freshly baked brownies. For drinks, we have different canned sodas, a couple of glasses, and a bottle of sparkling cider. Chase certainly went all out for this picnic, and the view is breathtaking.
We sit on the blankets enjoying the food and the surrounding area. My eyes are looking everywhere as I have never seen anything like this from being from a small town in North Carolina to seeing the city life of California, while Chase sits there and watches me.
"It's so beautiful out tonight, thank you for bringing me here," I turn to look at Chase smiling in awe.
Chase takes hold of my hand and brings it up to his lips and lays a gentle kiss on the back of my hand. "To see that smile on your face sweetheart, I would do this every day if I could." Oh, he is the sweetest when he puts his heart into it.
We lose ourselves in the view of Hollywood, we don't talk we just sit there and take in the nightlife below us. This is one of the many things I love about spending time with Chase, we don't need to talk or have any awkward silence we just understand and respect these moments together, because we don't know what our future holds or where we are heading after high school.
Time is getting on and it's getting late, so we pack up and head to the car and head back home. Thinking back on our silence during the picnic has made me think. I think Chase and I need to have that conversation about what will happen to us after high school. There still is a chance we won't go to the same college, and there's still a chance I won't get the scholarship to Berkeley. It's a conversation I'm not wanting to have but I guess it is needed.
"Savannah, I can hear them cogs turning so fast smoke is starting to form. What are you thinking about?" How does he know? Seriously am I thinking my thoughts out loud? "Well, you are now sweetheart, come on talk to me, tell me what's on your mind."
"Oh, um ... I was thinking about our future after high school. What will we do if we end up in different colleges? What will happen if we do go to the same college but break up because we both want something different? I don't know how I could live without you in my life now. You, Jen, Selena, and the boys have come to mean so much to me in the few months I've been here. I just think we need to have this discussion, so we are on the same page."
"I couldn't agree with you more sweetheart, but I feel like it would be a pointless conversation. I want us more than my next breath. I don't ever plan on letting you leave me; I don't want us to ever break up. If we go to different colleges, I am willing to do the long-distance thing, that is if you want to. If we are lucky enough to end up going to the same college together then that's fantastic, we could maybe look into getting a place together if that's what could happen. I don't know. What I do know is that my future is nonexistent without you in it." I guess we are on the same page after all.
It took longer to come back from Hollywood than it did going to Hollywood due to heavy traffic leaving the city. It was gone midnight by the time we got back to Santa Monica. I must have fallen asleep on the journey home as I wake up parked outside my house, in Chase's car, with him asleep in the driver's seat, and the sun shining through the windows. Once I realize what I've done I turn and look towards my house and see my dad standing in the lounge window looking out at us. I don't think he's happy that I kind of broke my word to him that I would not be out all night.
I shake Chase's arm to wake him up and he startles awake with my gesture. "What's going on?" He looks at his surroundings and realizes what has happened. "Shit, do you think your dad will be pissed?" We both look towards where I saw my dad standing and see he's still there looking at us my stomach sinks.
"I better go in and do damage control," I inform him. Dad looks pissed if not murderous right now.
"Do you want me to come in with you?"
"Thanks for the offer but I think it's best I do this alone. Besides it was me who went back on my word to him." I lean over the center console and kiss him on the cheek. "I'll text you later to tell you what happened."
"Okay sweetheart, text me later and if your father wants to know why we stayed in the car I'm more than happy to tell him my side."
"I'll keep that in mind I'm sure he'll want that," I unfasten my seatbelt and open the car door. "Thank you for a fantastic night, Chase, I loved it," smiling I climb out of the car, and before I shut it Chase gave me his last parting words.
"Me too sweetheart, I would do last night over and over again if I could just to see that smile on your face, and the awe in your eyes. I love you Savannah, talk to you later," I shut my door and watch him drive away before I head on inside to attempt to calm my dad down.
