As I sing this song, which I am surprised I know the words to it, I sing from the heart and my eyes do not leave Savannah's. I am begging and pleading her through song to talk to me once I am finished. I just wished I had picked a shorter song. Meat Loaf's songs are at least five minutes long at best, so I am hating myself for that.
Finally, and I do mean finally the song comes to an end and the crowd erupts into applause. I look out at all the faces staring back at me one face in particular almost brings me to my knees. My mom. Mom is standing next to my father with his arm around her as she is wiping tears from her eyes with a tissue. Is she crying because of me? Another thought that flew through my head looking at my mom is, are those happy tears?
I will have to find out later when I speak to her. Right now, I need to talk to Savannah. I keep tight hold of her hand, and we walk away from where we are standing, and I hand the microphone back to the DJ as he starts playing some more songs. I ask her in her ear to follow me to a quieter spot so we can talk. With bleated breath I wait for her response. She looks up at me still in shell shock from hearing me sing in person. I can see so many thoughts and emotions running through her eyes right now I plead she agrees.
Savannah shakes her current thoughts out of her head then nods giving me the answer I would wait a lifetime for. I mouth thank you to her and lead her to an area that is hardly used butt it's Mom's secret place. As Jen and I called it when we were younger Mom's secret garden. When we reached it, I walk Savannah over to the bench swing. As we walked toward it the motion censored solar lights turned on illuminating around us. It looks like twinkling fairies are fluttering up the footpath and around the tree where the swing is sat in front of. It does look beautiful here lit up at night I am so happy I brought her here so we can hear what we have to say to each other with no interruptions.
Inviting her to take a seat I wait for her to sit down first before I sit next to her. She sits down and turns herself to face me, and I do the same to face her. Taking a breath, I ask her if I may go first to explain everything that happened before she arrived and after she left the study. She gives me the go ahead so I take a calming deep breath and start to explain.
"When you texted, me saying you would be on your way very soon I was finishing getting myself dressed, by then some guests had already started to turn up. Just as I was walking downstairs, my phone started to ring. I didn't recognize the number, so I was going to wait and call them back after I saw you, but something in the back of my mind was telling me that I had to answer it. So, I told my parents that I was going to the study to take the call, and I would be back out very shortly. I regret now taking that phone call because if I didn't you wouldn't have that hurt and pissed off look on your face right now nor would you feel so heartbroken that you believe we have broken up over something that will not happen. You know what happened as I got off the phone to that scout and I cannot apologize enough to you right now tonight for making you feel the way I did and putting that doubt in your mind."
I squeeze her hand in reassurance that I am not letting her go anywhere. Not tonight, not now, not ever. "But shortly after you left, I snapped myself out of the doubt I was putting through myself and seeing how hurt you where it crippled me to my knees. That pain I felt shows me that you Savannah mean more to me than football, more than my job, more than school, hell even more than my own family. When you left, I had to get to the bottom of this shit straight away before I let that bitch think she has control and power over me, over you, over us. So, I went to go ahead and speak to my dad and our lawyer to help with this, but as I was looking for them Adelaide found me and told me some information I didn't know."
"What did she tell you?"
"Coach Daniels is Candace's uncle, and it was Candace who put him up to this so she could control me."
