Today is now Halloween. So that means tonight I will be doing the performance of my life. Am I nervous? Hell, yeah, I am. But am I gonna kill it? You know damn right I will. I am grateful that it's not a costume party tonight as I don't have a costume to wear, I only have with me what I brought.
After I got back from the cemetery yesterday, I spent the rest of the evening talking with the girls and we even done a video call with Jen and Chase. It was good to see them, and they hit it off with my friends here. Charlotte is already making plans to raid Jen's closet. And Ocean said after we got off camera if I don't snatch up that hot Cali guy she would. We had a great night laughing and gossiping about everything.
The day just flew by, and it was time we headed off to the Maddoc family ranch for the party. Since I am flying back to California tomorrow morning, I have happily assigned myself as tonight's designated driver. The ranch isn't that far from Ocean's house which was a good thing as I have forgotten how treacherous these roads get after heavy rain.
When we arrived, the band are starting sound check, so we are the first ones to arrive. I helped set out the food and drinks on a table in the far corner of the barn. This party looks like it's going to be a hit. The crowd starts flowing in slowly and before I knew it the party was in full swing. When it seems like everyone is here James steps up to the mic and welcomes everyone and then invites me and the girls to start the evening with the opening song. Getting up onto the stage I make an introduction.
"Hey everyone, it's great to be back here with y'all tonight. We would like to kick start tonight by singing a song for y'all. This song is called 'No Place Like You' by Maddie and Tae. Here we go."
The band starts playing the intro to the song as I sing the opening line "California cherry cola, sandy skies in Arizona Smoky Mountain blowin' through Tennessee," the girls join in for the rest of the song. When the song ends the crowd applauds and we take our bow. As the girls walk off the stage, I stay on to perform my set.
"Hope you guys don't mind if I stay up here and sing some songs for you." Everyone cheered and the band starts playing the opening to 'Geronimo' by Sheppard. Must admit it does feel great to be back on stage, in my hometown, in front of people I grew up with and seeing that everyone is having a fun time.
The night was coming to an end. Gotta give James props this Halloween barn party was an immense success. Music playing throughout the night and a bonfire lit in the field. Nothing could have made this night better. If only my friends from California were here to enjoy it with me. It's time I call it a night. Brianna is staying the night with James. I can't believe their parents are cool with them staying over at each other's houses. So, I drove Charlotte, Ocean, and myself back home as my flight back to California is in ten hours.
The one night I wish I could have a good night's sleep is the night I am up the entire night writing in my journal or thinking about a certain guy who might be waiting for me at the airport back in California.
Just as my luck has it today, I have the worst night's sleep I could possibly have, there is heavy traffic getting to the airport and now when I get to the gate, I look at the screen and see my flight is delayed. Great just fucking great. The plane is delayed by thirty minutes. I text Dad and all my girls saying the flight is delayed so everyone is aware of my situation. Half an hour delay that's just enough time for me to quickly go and grab a coffee and hopefully the plane will be boarding when I get back.
My luck must be turning around after all, as after I went and grabbed my toffee latte and walked back to the gate, they have started calling passengers to board the plane. It's a good job I drank most of my latte walking back to the gate as they have just called my seat number to board. I'm just hoping I can sleep on the plane or can occupy myself for my five-hour flight back.
The flight back felt quicker than it did on the way to North Carolina. I read a couple of chapters of my book, and I did finally manage to sleep on the plane. There was a little bit of turbulence during the flight, but it didn't last long maybe five or ten minutes.
I just can't wait to get off this plane so I can see my dad and my friends again. Being away for two days I have missed my dad I don't know how I'm gonna manage when I go off to college. I think it's gonna be regular trips home as I don't like the fact that Dad will be alone when I head off to college.
