We all climb out of the limo and the guys are all holding our arms and escorts us up into the building. Two doormen kindly open the door for us and welcome us to the Crystal Palace and to enjoy our evening. First stop for us as Chase and Lucas recommended is to get our pictures done first so then that way, we don't look too red faced or sweaty. That is actually not a bad idea if you think about it. We get a bunch of pictures took, we had solo pictures, the six of us together, just the girls, just the guys, and with our dates. I can't wait to see how the pictures come out because I will be getting a copy of every single one.
Entering into the ballroom of the palace we can hear the DJ playing 'Just Dance' by Lady Gaga. We walked around couples and across the dancefloor to the only table that is free for us to claim. The girls and I put our purses on the table and hit the dance floor with how good the music is sounding. After a couple of songs, the guys joined us on the dance floor already with their jackets off. We are having such a great time, even Adelaide came over to us and gave me a hug before she went off with her date. During the sit-down three course meal we were given, one of the teachers gave us all voting sheets to vote for things such as best dressed, most likely to be an evil genius, the future President of the United States, most likely to become a celebrity, most likely to become a Victoria Secret Angel, and of course prom king and queen.
Once we were finished with our food, Chase and I went for a walk to explore the grounds. We didn't want to wonder off too far knowing Jen would probably come looking for us if we were gone for too long. We enjoyed the view of the darkening sky out on the lake with the stars starting to twinkle above us. I rested my head on Chase's shoulder as we just stood there in silence enjoying each other's company. Just before long Jen comes out and calls us back in as they are announcing the winners from the votes.
Back in the ballroom Mrs. Sharples, the school principal is up on stage with some cards and the microphone in her hand and she starts to announce the winners just as we take our seats at our table. For the female best dressed it was announced that Adelaide won that. I'm not surprised to be honest that she won, I even voted for her with her golden colored strapless sweetheart neckline mermaid style dress with ruffles at the bottom. She was just glowing. For the male best dressed Samson Judd was announced the winner. He was a brave soul, but huge credit went to him, he came dressed like Hugh Jackman from The Greatest Showman, top hat and white gloves and all, he looks amazing.
For the evil genius award, I was not surprised in the slightest as who won that. It was Greg. With how he hacked into the student files and knew when my birthday was, that is an evil genius in the making. Even though I know Greg will not become one but can act like it when he needs to. The future President award I had a little suspicion with, but I could not be more happier on who got named the winner. My best friend Jen. Yes, she's wanting to become the lawyer for the family company, but she does have some scary potential to get into politics and could possibly run for President one day. Maybe she could become America's first female president. We can only wait and see if that is something she will be interested in when it's time.
For most likely to become a celebrity they had two categories for it a media celeb and a sporting star. Josephine won the media celeb, with how hard she works I can see her having her own podcast or radio station, something along those lines, where for the sporting star I think there was quite a bit of competition for it as this school has some amazing athletes, but the winner turned out to be Lucas. He did say for his dream in the yearbook is to one day play for the Dallas Cowboys. Maybe that's why he accepted the scholarship for the Austin campus instead of going with Selena to Dallas. For the Victoria Secret Angel that was a tough one to vote for because every person in this room is beautiful in their own way. Especially the girls most of them hide behind too much makeup when that is not needed, they just need to have faith in their own natural beauty. When the winner was announced there was a loud gasp next to me to see Selena with her hands covering her mouth in shock. Not believing she won the Victoria Secret Angel award. She does have the potential to be one if that is what she wants to do in the future. Whatever her decision is I will support her no matter what.
Now for the big award of the night. Who will be crowned prom king and queen? There are so many great couples here tonight that could win it, but it doesn't matter who wins. Just being here to experience this moment is enough to last a lifetime. Well, that is my view on the matter. There were couples who made posters and badges to try and get the senior class to vote for them during the last couple of weeks in school, But Chase and I said if we get voted or not it doesn't matter because we don't need a crown to be happy and enjoy the evening.
Someone brought out the crowns on red velvet cushions and stood on the stage behind Mrs. Sharples as she gave this speech of how many people voted for this couple even the teaching staff thought exactly the same for them to put in their own votes too. When she asked for a drumroll, the DJ happily obliged and when the winners were announced the whole room applauded as a spotlight landed on me and Chase. We won? I can't believe it. Chase stands up next to me and holds his hand out for me to take it. Placing my hand in his I stand up from my chair and we walk onto the stage together to be crowned.
I am still in total shock that I was named prom queen I bend at the knee ever so slightly for Mrs. Sharples to put the crown on my head, and Chase does the same too, but he bends a little lower because he is a big boy after all the mere six foot two of all muscle. Mrs. Sharples asked for us to make a little speech with me being too stunned to say anything right now, thinking this is all a dream Chase stepped up and made the speech.
"Wow, what can I say to you all about this huge honor? I guess Savannah and I would like to say thank you to everyone who voted for us even though we didn't campaign like some of the other couples here this evening. But we are both very humbled and honored to be crowned tonight your prom king and queen. Thank you." Everyone cheered as we were helped off the stage to stand in the middle of the dance floor for the spotlight dance.
The room went silent as the DJ starts the music for the dance, which so happened to be 'Truly, Madly, Deeply' by Savage Garden. Chase takes hold of my hand and pulls me into him, resting his other hand on my lower back as we start to sway to the music. We dance with each other like there is nobody else in the room. As the song gets halfway through the DJ invites everyone else to join us on the dance floor. Every couple of the senior class joined us on the dance floor for the remainder of the song. Jen, Greg, Selena, and Lucas were the closest to us and everyone else surrounded us. When the song came to an end Chase whispered in my ear, "My Cinderella now has become a Queen and will not be turning into a pumpkin at midnight." This evening could not have ended on a better note. This senior year in my eyes could not have ended on a worst note. Now that Candace has finally gone out of our lives for good. Senior year has been the best anyone could have asked for. I am just happy that tonight there is no running before the end of the evening. When prom finished the six of us went back to Lucas' house for our own little private after party. Something we wasn't sure whether to do or not, But Greg and Lucas said this will be one of the last chances if not the last chance for us to be at a party together as high school seniors. So, we agreed as long as it was just us six and nobody else. Lucas happily agreed as that is just how he hoped it would be.
