Savannah P.O.V
Sitting on a rock overlooking the water, I feel more at peace with myself and all things around me. I didn't want to go to the beach near my house as that would be the first place Dad would look for me. I drove around for over half an hour when I noticed I was in Malibu of all places. I pulled up to a car park next to a secluded beach, walked down, and climbed onto a rock, and here is where I have stayed ever since.
It has got to be close to lunch by now. I'm starving. The last thing I ate was some fried chicken at the picnic last night. Just as I'm about to stand up to go get something to eat two familiar figures are walking toward me. How did they find me?
"Mind if we join you?" Jen says as they both climb up the rock and sit down on either side of me.
"Talk to us, sweetheart. What made you run away and come this far? When you know you could have always come to us, either of us. So, why didn't you?"
"I couldn't come to either of you about this because I know my dad and that would be the first place he would go, and I've lost my phone I don't know where it is." After I tell them about my phone Jen digs into her jacket pocket and pulls out my phone and then hands it to me. "How did you?"
"You left it in Chase's car last night." I thank her and hug her for being one of the best friends I could ever have. "So, talk to us, take us through what happened."
I do just that I tell them everything. The hurtful things I said to my dad, the hurtful things he said to me, the reason why I didn't use a pay phone to tell them where I was, and why I came out this far when I am a short walk from a beach at home. "How pissed is my dad?" I just hope he's not that pissed that I shouldn't go home. I just wanted to be close to my mom after this fight.
"I'm not gonna lie, sweetheart, he is pretty pissed not at you but at himself. He said some harsh words to me but that doesn't matter as we are all worried about you, this is unlike you from what your dad has said. Whatever you choose to do right now we are here to support your choice."
"Chase is right Sav, we are worried about you, you have never done anything like this before, especially in the short time you have lived here. But I think I understand why."
"You do?" Chase and I say in unison.
"I think I do yeah. But I could be wrong."
"Enlighten us then Theresa Caputo," Chase says to his sister.
"Fuck you Chase, but if I am correct, it has something to do with why you came to a beach. I saw something when we went dress shopping for the winter formal."
"Get to the point Jen, please."
"Sav what is the one thing you wished for when you were standing in front of the mirror when we went dress shopping? What is the one thing every girl does when they fight with their dads? Who girls call their first best friends?" Chase looks at his sister like she has two heads. "You're so stupid Chase, I don't know how you don't know what I'm talking about."
"Do you know what she's talking about?" He asks and looks at me and all I do is nod. "Must be a chick thing." With his last comment Jen and I pull the look face women do at Chase and we both punched him in his arms. "Ouch, hey fuck that hurt."
"That's what you get asshole, I was talking about her mom. Sav misses her mom and wishes she could talk to her. It's hard for any girl to go through her senior year of high school and not have her mom with her. Sav had a fight with the only family she has here and from the stories I've heard her mom was the peacekeeper just like how Mom is for us, she is the one who keeps us on the ground."
Jen is the best she knows exactly what you're thinking and feeling before you know yourself. I know she will soar when she goes off to college, and when she passes the BAR, I know she will be a fearless lawyer one day.
We sit and talk for a while but there's something on my mind, so I ask the question, "How did you guys know where I was? I didn't have my phone on me, nobody knew I would even come to a beach, especially out here in Malibu."
"I called them," The three of us turned around to see someone standing behind us.
"Greg?"
