"Consider me surprised Jen, I never would have suspected you and your mother to make such a memorable meal such as this," Dad compliments Jen.
"Thank you, Dad I asked Mom after Thanksgiving if I could help her as when I have a family of my own in the future I would love to be able to make a dinner like this for my husband and children and sit around the table as we are now with great company having the best day we could ever ask for."
I almost choke on my drink with what she has just admitted. Husband and kids? What? She's not eighteen yet and she's already talking about marriage and family? I know I can't say anything as it wasn't that long ago, I was thinking the same thing with Savannah by my side. But she's my sister, my twin sister at that. No guy would ever be good enough for her. Well, in my eyes at least, Dad well that's another story.
"I hope that's in the far distant future princess. Your mother and I would want both you and Chase to have a college experience before you think about settling down and having families of your own," Dad says sternly looking at not just Jen and me but at Savannah as well. I don't want to know what Dad is thinking but I feel pissed that he would even consider that when it comes to her.
"Stuart, Nancy thank you for looking out for my daughter, but Savannah and I have already had this conversation about college and her future, and we are both on the same page as you two are. Chase when you get time later on, I want to have that same conversation with you."
Gulping and wiping my hands on my thighs as my palms start to sweat like crazy, I nod "Yes sir of course," Oh shit, this man has always made me nervous when it comes to conversations about his daughter.
The rest of dinner goes smoothly, no more sweating out of my ass with every glare Mr. Blakemoore sends my way. We grab our drinks and move into the family lounge and sit and talk amongst each other. Jen and Savannah have got their heads together discussing about the New Year's Eve party, Mom and Dad are talking about who knows what, and Mr. Blakemoore is looking at me and gives a suggestion to have this conversation now, so I nod and the pair of us stand and leave and head towards the music room.
"Right, Chase as I said during dinner Savannah, and I have already had this discussion, and I just want to make sure that all of us are on the same page. I should have asked you this the other night when you came to my house requesting to speak to her. But I need to know what are your intentions with my daughter in the future?" Oh, shit.
"I have been thinking about that myself a little bit today sir. I love your daughter so much that it hurts just thinking about not being with her. She is the one for me and I knew she was someone who would be important to me when she bumped into me on her first day of school, I just didn't know how but now I do. I want to marry your daughter Mr. Blakemoore." I confess to him, and he looks stunned I freely admit it. "But as you have said and my parents have said Savannah, Jen and myself deserve to have a college education before we make serious choices about our future, and I agree with that. If Savannah and I end up going to different colleges, I plan and hope we can still be together and try a long-distance relationship. The chances of us breaking up because of the distance is high, but I have complete faith in us. Even if we end up going to the same college together then that's even better as we could still build and strengthen our trust and relationship. Savannah means the absolute world to me, and I can see it in your eyes sir that you are not completely happy that your baby girl is growing up and is in a relationship, especially with a guy like me." Mr. Blakemoore crosses an arm across his chest and his other hand is resting on his chin with his index finger rubbing along his bottom lip as he listens to every word that I am saying and testing to see if I am worthy of his daughter. "But I give you my word sir, if we haven't broken up by then, on the day we graduate college I will be coming to ask for your blessing to ask Savannah to marry me. I thought a little about how I want to propose when everyone came inside the house earlier on today."
"How is that son? If you don't mind me asking of course?"
"It won't be the same day as we graduate but maybe a week or two after I think would be best. The house where we had the winter formal is where our relationship started, and I've done some reading about that house, and it has been vacant for many years. If the house is still available, then I aim to buy the house with everything I have saved up from work and bouses and give it to her as her graduation present."
I continue to tell him what I thought and would like to try and do for after we graduate, and Mr. Blakemoore did something I was not expecting. He smiled. He smiled at what I told him and he gave me his approval for dating his daughter and continue to make her happy, and I promised him that I will always be there for her when we go off to college and he seemed pleased I said I will always be there for her no matter what happens to our relationship in the future.
