Aaron's whole body ceased with sudden apprehension. His eyes remained closed as the nightmare sucked him further down the rabbit hole. It was the night he was drugged and raped by Brett and his friends.
Usually he would be standing afar watching but this time he was there on the bed. His eyes were opened and he could hear their conversation. But it seemed as though they didn't realized he was awake.
Aaron's gaze looked around at the small, plain room and at the five men standing near him. Their faces were distorted but not their voices.
"I can't believe he actually believed me." He recognized Brett's voice.
"Let me just video tape this to keep in my collection."
Aaron frowned as he tried to identify the owner of that voice. It had a slight Hispanic accent. The only person he had known with a Spanish accent was... No way... It couldn't be...
A gasp left his mouth when both their faces became crystal clear.
Brett looked at Paul with a wide smile but it held a bit of warning.
"Make sure you don't film my face."
Aaron's body drenched in sweat as he tried to force himself awake.
"Aaron wake up. You have to wake up." Theo's voice echoed through the room.
His fingers gripped the sheets and a loud pained scream escaped his mouth. His eyes shot open to find Theo leaning over him.
Aaron forced himself to breathe steadily in spite of his state of panic.
"Aaron, what the hell happened to you? I couldn't wake you up."
"I'm...I'm fine. It's just a nightmare."
"That wasn't an ordinary nightmare."
"I don't want to talk about it."
"That's the problem, Aaron. It's gonna eat you up if you don't talk about it."
The plane dipped a bit, it was then that Aaron remembered where that he was in an airplane.
Theo already knew about his childhood trauma. But this wasn't something he wanted him to know.
"I'm not going to be disgusted with you. I'm not going to feel differently about you. Just tell me."
"Can I get a glass of water?"
Theo got up without a word, returning with a bottled water. He took the bottle from him and took a sip. Aaron held the bottle in his hands and stared down at it.
"I should probably be wary of bottled water."
"What do you mean?"
"When I was in the academy..." He cleared his throat before another sip of his water. "At first I thought it was a dream but later I found out it actually happened."
"What happened to you?"
"I was drugged and raped by a couple of my teammates."
"Are you fucking serious?" Theo's face mottled with anger. "Did they find out who they were?"
"I couldn't remember at first but just now I saw two of their faces."
"As soon as this plane lands, we're going to find these fuckers."
Aaron was surprised at the venom in his voice. It felt good having another person he could trust on his side.
"My team already knows one of the persons involved."
"Do you recall their names?"
"Let's talk when we reach home."
"Okay, we'll talk later. Are you hungry?"
Aaron's stomach rumbled at the mention of food. "I guess that answers your question."
"I had them prepared something for you."
"Thanks."
When Theo placed the tray in front of him, Aaron looked up at him.
"How long until we land?"
"Two hours." Theo told him, taking a seat. "Let's eat before it gets cold."
"I can't wait to take a proper shower without the worry of being watched."
"There were no cameras in the bathroom."
"I'm not taking about the bathroom."
Justin would have him shower in his bathroom after every fight. But he would stand at the door and watch him, leaving him with no privacy.
"Did Justin ever tried to..."
"No, it never went that far."
Except for that one time, he never tried anything.
"We're nearing our destination."
When Aaron heard this, relief filled him. He was almost home.
"Thanks again for the food."
"No need to keep thanking me. It's the least I can do. You're in this mess because of me."
The rest of the flight, Theo told him about his childhood, keeping his mind off his nightmare.
Two hours later the pilot announced that they had finally reached their destination. When the plane landed, it was raining heavily.
Aaron stared out the window at the familiar scenery. He grabbed the bag from under his seat and pulled out the phone Theo had given him.
Thank God, he had signal.
"Come on, there's a vehicle waiting for us."
"Another vehicle?"
"Don't worry. It's my personal vehicle."
The pilot exited the cockpit. "I'll make sure you weren't followed."
"Thanks for your help. I owe you."
The flight attendant handed Theo a bag without a word. Theo took the bag from her hands before turning to him.
"We can go."
Aaron didn't ask any questions about the bag. The flight attendant gave him a slicker raincoat which he took thanking her. After donning their coats, they left the airplane.
Wind and rain slashed at him as they reached the vehicle. He pulled the door opened and hurried into the jeep. Theo got in the driver's side and quickly turned on the heater. He started the engine and drove off in the heavy rain.
Aaron removed the raincoat and threw it on the backseat. He pulled the phone out and dialed Kyle's number.
It rang four times before going straight to voicemail. He hang up the phone and dialed Logan's number.
"Hello, who is this?"
"Logan..." Emotions choked him up but Aaron managed to answer.
"Aaron...Aaron, where are you? Did you call Kyle?"
"His phone went to voicemail."
"Meet me at your apartment. I'll be there waiting for you."
"Okay, I'll be there. It's so good hearing your voice. I missed you."
"I missed you too."
