Aaron saw the missed call from Logan on his phone when he entered his apartment. He redialed Logan's number and waited for him to answer the phone.
He removed the gun from his waist and walked into the bedroom to place it on the dresser close to his bed. He didn't need to carry it with him since he was efficient in using anything as a weapon.
Logan answered on the third ring.
"Hello."
"What's wrong with you?" Aaron asked because he sounded out of breath.
"Nothing is wrong."
Aaron knew he was lying but he kept himself from voicing his thoughts. Logan had just met him; of course he's not going to tell him every detail of his life right away.
"I hope I'm not disturbing you. I just saw your missed call."
"I thought you had fallen asleep."
Aaron glanced at the time, it was still early. "No...I had to take care of something."
"What are you doing?"
"Doing some paperwork." That part he could tell him without giving away any details.
"What kind of paperwork?"
"Family business." Aaron went back out into the living-room and sat down as he grabbed the folder from the table.
"Are you still picking me up tomorrow?"
"Yes, I'll be there. Make sure to stay at the front of the building, where it's easier for me to see you."
"Okay."
Aaron removed the mugshots from the folder and set them out across the table. He had never seen Phil apart from his mugshot, so he wasn't familiar with his face.
Detective Finn had mentioned that one person had helped them escaped. It was highly doubtful that was the case. He believed they had helped from at least two people.
"Logan, have any new students moving in at the dorm building?"
"No, I haven't seen anyone moving in, just those that were already here."
That was one thing he hadn't missed when he graduated from college. He had only accepted this undercover assignment because of Logan. Not even his parents had been able to change his mind about accepting this case.
"Are you sharing the dorm with anyone?" Aaron asked, although he already know the answer. He wanted to see if Logan would volunteer that information on his own to someone he only met two days ago.
"I'll let you know the answer to that question another time."
Aaron smiled when he heard his response. "I'll hold you to that."
"I'm going to hang up, so I'll see you tomorrow."
"Call me if you need anything."
Aaron hang up the phone after saying goodbye and picked up Logan's picture in his hand to stare at it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Logan got up and went to the bathroom to grab his medication. He had forgotten to take them earlier since he had went out with Aaron and Kaia. After taking his pills, he returned them to the cabinet. The sudden ringing of his phone startled him. He looked down at his phone screen and saw Emma's name.
"Emma, I was just about to call you."
"I thought that you forgot."
"No, I didn't. I went out with some friends."
"You're already making friends. Tell me the details."
"There's nothing much to tell. I went to a party at the Beta House; that's where I met them."
"What are their names?"
"Aaron and Kaia."
"Hmm...so where did you guys go?"
"Driving...then we went swimming. I had a really great time."
"I'm happy you met people but still you need to be careful."
Logan sat on his bed and turned on the television. He knew Emma was right but he had a feeling that Aaron and Kaia are the two people he needed in his life.
"I will, don't worry about me."
"When are you going to tell your Aunt about your new friends?"
"Soon...I don't want her scaring them off."
"Don't wait too long to tell her though."
There was a loud commotion on the other end, so he pulled the phone away from his ear.
"What's all that noise?" He asked Emma when he deemed it safe to put the phone against his ear.
"It's Raymond. He's trying his hand at cooking and it is not going well."
Logan heard the laughter in her voice and shook his head.
"Tell him not to burn the house down."
"I will. Take care of yourself and call me anytime you need to talk."
"Oh, that reminds me, Kaia is a split version of you. I think you will like her."
"Are you sure that you can handle two of us?"
"I've had a lot of practice with you."
"Good. I'd like to meet her."
There was another crash, followed by lots of cursing. "I'm gonna go before he breaks all my dishes. Love you."
"Love you too."
Logan hang up the phone and turned his attention to the television.
He search through the channels and decided to watch a horror movie. He was halfway through the movie when Logan thought he heard a noise from the room across from his.
He muted the volume to listen but there was only silence.
Waiting for a moment, he continued to listen when he heard a crashing sound. Whoever his neighbor was, Logan hoped that person wasn't going to be a nuisance. The noise pushed to the back of his mind, Logan continued to watch the movie.
He fell asleep before the movie ended.
