Logan opened his eyes and squinted at the sunlight streaming through the window. He glanced over at the spot next to him expecting to see Aaron and Kyle but it was empty.
With a pained groan he swung his legs over the side of the bed and got up to take a shower.
It took him twenty minutes to take a shower and change before heading out the room. Emma was sitting on the couch tapping away on her phone. She looked up at him and a teasing smile spread on her face.
"Did you have fun last night?"
Logan paused to stare at her. "I don't know what you mean."
"Hmm...sure you don't."
Logan ignored her knowing smirk and glanced around the apartment.
"Have you seen Kyle and Aaron?"
"They went out early this morning."
Logan walked over to sit on the couch, ignoring the pain.
"Did they tell you where they were going?"
"Why would they tell me? They're cops."
"Why didn't anyone wake me up?"
"Aaron told me to let you rest."
"Where's Aunt Tara?"
"She went to the store with Raymond."
Logan's phone started ringing before he could ask her any more questions. He glanced at the screen before taking the call.
"Why did you leave without waking me up?"
"We knew that you needed your rest, especially after last night."
Logan peeked over at Emma. She was sitting there with her arms crossed, her eyes on him.
"When will you be back?"
"We're already on our way back."
The incessant honking of a horn sounded in the background.
"What's going on?"
"Slight traffic jam." There were more honking. "Logan...see you in a few minutes."
Emma stood up and walked over to him. "Did something happened? You looked worried. "
"I know that I shouldn't be worried but..."
"You already know that Aaron can take care of himself. Besides with all these people on his side, nothing will happen."
"I just have to keep telling myself that." Logan gave her a half smile.
His stomach suddenly rumbled reminding him that he hadn't eaten anything since yesterday afternoon.
He was in the kitchen making himself a sandwich when his Aunt entered the kitchen carrying bags in her hands.
Logan rushed forward to help her.
"Why didn't you ask for help?"
"I'm fine. Go and help Raymond."
"Why are there so many bags?"
"Dinner party."
"I wasn't aware we were having a dinner party."
"That's because it's a surprise for Aaron."
Logan stared at his Aunt. "Did you planned this?"
"I did...it was a last minute decision."
"Oh..." Logan turned when the door to the kitchen opened. It was Raymond, carrying the more bags.
"Do you need any help?"
Raymond shook his head. "I'm good, thanks. Why don't you help Aunt Tara? I still need to collect the cake from the bakery."
"Is there a list of things that needs to be done?" Logan asked.
"Emma has one. Talk to her."
He should have known Emma would be in on it.
"Okay." Logan picked up his sandwich and exited the kitchen.
"I guess you found out." She gave him a sheepish grin then parted the spot beside her. "I have some things that we to do."
Logan sat down. "I'm not going to argue with you. Show me the list."
Emma handed him the list and they went over to make sure they got everything. An hour later the doorbell rang and Logan got up to answer it.
Aaron's mother stood on the other side with two men dressed in black.
"Aaron went out early this morning."
"I know. Where's your Aunt?"
"She's inside."
The two men turned away without a word disappearing around the corner. They returned a few seconds later with bags in their hands.
"I brought the decorations."
Logan stepped out of the way so they could enter. Pamela instructed the men where to put the bags.
"Thank you both for your help. I'll call you when I'm done here."
Both men bowed at Pamela before leaving.
Emma tapped him on his shoulder then pointed to the two men.
Logan could only shrug his shoulders at her silent question. He had no idea who they were.
Pamela turned to face them with a smile on her beautiful face. "I think we should get cracking. Don't want to waste daylight."
"Do you want to help us decorate?"
"I think you can handle this on your own. I'm going to help your Aunt."
Logan stared as she walked to the kitchen. He couldn't believe this was the same woman that had threatened to have those men castrated for what they did to Aaron.
Aaron's family seemed normal but Logan believed they would kill anyone that cause any harm to Aaron.
"I'm glad she's on our side." Emma uttered, before going over to the boxes.
Logan couldn't agree more.
