Aaron rolled onto his back at the sound of the alarm. His whole body felt like it was being tied down to the bed, refusing to move. Heaving a rough sigh, he swung his legs over the side and sat on the edge of the bed.
He just sat there for a while trying to gather himself. When his eyes felt like they weren't glued together, he got up and went to take a shower. Ten minutes later he was heading downstairs to the kitchen.
Kyle was at the stove making breakfast.
"Eat this before you leave."
"You didn't have to make me breakfast. I would have grabbed something at the deli."
"As your partner, there's no way I'm letting you leave here on an empty stomach."
"I won't be able to eat right now because I need to leave to make it at the dorm for eight."
"Eat it on the way."
Kyle put his breakfast in a takeaway container and handed it to him.
"I owe you one."
Kyle mumbled something but he couldn't make out the words.
"What did you say?"
"Nothing. Drive safe."
Aaron stared at Kyle for a moment before taking the container.
When they were at the front door Aaron stopped with his hand on the door handle. "Remember what I told you."
"I will."
Aaron left Kyle's house and drove straight to the dorm. By the time he pulled up in front of the building he had already finished eating his breakfast. He grabbed his phone and dialed Logan's number.
"Hey, Aaron. I'll be right down."
He leaned his head against the car seat, eyes scanning around until he saw someone standing in the lobby staring at his vehicle.
He got out his jeep and walked towards him. "Are you stalking me now?"
"No, I'm not. I just want to talk to you."
"Look, I don't have a brother. So, who are you really?"
"I wasn't lying when I told you my name last time. It's really Theo."
Aaron stared at him for a moment, taking in his features. "Why did you say that you're my brother?"
"Because I wanted to talk you."
"Why?"
"It's because I like..."
Aaron saw the elevator door opened and Logan walked out in a rush.
"Aaron sorry for taking so long. I was looking for my..." Logan glanced up at him than at Theo, giving him the once over.
"It's fine. We should go." Aaron smiled at him. He could always tell when Logan gets jealous and he was trying to avoid a conversation in front of a complete stranger.
"Wait..." Theo grabbed his arm, ignoring Logan. "I haven't finished talking to you."
"It'll have to wait. Now is not a good time. Besides, don't you have classes?"
Aaron pulled his arm away then turned to Logan. "Come on. I don't want us to be late." He put a hand on Logan's shoulders and steered him toward the jeep.
Logan remained quiet as he got into the vehicle. Aaron closed the driver's side door and keyed the ignition. He pulled from the curb and drove off.
Aaron kept glancing over at Logan trying to gauge his reaction but Logan had turned his head toward the window.
"Have you eaten?"
Silence.
"Logan, did you hear me?"
Silence.
Aaron returned his attention to the road. When he saw the diner up ahead, he parked the jeep but left the engine idling.
"I'm going to get you something to eat."
"Don't bother, I'm not hungry." Logan turned to look at him, scrutinizing his face. "Do you know him?"
"Not really." He didn't pretend not to know who he was talking about.
"Why was he talking to you?"
"He just wanted to talk to me."
"Hmm..." Logan mumbled something he didn't catch.
"What did you say?"
Silence.
Aaron let out a sigh before getting out the jeep. His headache was coming back and he was still running low on sleep. The bell chimed as he entered the deli. He went up to the counter and placed a quick order.
He rubbed a hand at the back of his neck, before taking out his phone.
He looked at it and saw a message from Kaia, telling him that she had contacted her friend.
In twenty-four hours he will get back to her. Taking his order from the waitress, he left the deli and headed to his jeep.
He handed the bag to Logan when he entered the vehicle.
"Eat it while we're on our way to class."
Logan gripped the bag in his hands for a second before opening it.
"Thanks."
"No problem." Aaron said driving out the small parking area.
Silence filled the jeep as he drove them to the building. Spotting the parking lot, Aaron parked his jeep but he didn't get out.
"I'm sorry that I ignored you." Logan apologized.
Aaron only turned his head to look at him silently.
"I shouldn't have behaved that way."
"There's no reason for you be jealous of any person that approaches me. I like you and I want to be with you."
He went through a lot just to be close to him.
"I know that but I still..."
"Don't clam up on me. Talk to me and we'll resolve it."
"You're right." Logan gave a genuine smile and all Aaron could was stare at him. He leaned over and kissed Logan lightly on his mouth.
"Finish your breakfast."
"Thanks again for breakfast."
"You don't need to thank me. It's what I wanted to do for you." Aaron said, hoping Logan would understand what he meant by those words.
