Logan paused at the top of the stairs, listening to the conversation. His chest felt tight with anger as Kyle's words echoed in his head.
Gang-raped.
Aaron was gang raped by four guys.
"We have two names. Pawel Joseph and Brett Saxe."
His whole body went tense when the name Pawel reached his ears.
"Pawel..." Logan took a step backwards until his back hit the wall.
"Do you know that person?"
He spun around to find Pete standing right behind him. Didn't these guys ever make any noise?
"He's Raymond's cousin. But we haven't seen him for almost two years now."
"Does Raymond know where he lives?"
"I'm not sure."
"You need to tell Kyle about this. It might help us catch these guys."
"I can't believe that Pawel raped Aaron. Maybe it was someone else."
As the words left his mouth, Logan doubted it. He had only met the guy a few times. That wasn't a long period to get to know someone. Before his family was killed, he had barely seen the guy. Then Raymond had told him that Pawel had stopped contacting the family. No messages. Nothing.
"It doesn't seem like you believe it."
"I hardly knew Pawel. But he was always nice to me whenever I visited with Raymond."
"He may have been nice to you but he was hiding his true face. He helped drugged and raped Aaron. We can't let him or the others get away with their crime." Pete took a step towards him and put a hand on his shoulder. "I've known Aaron for years. He didn't deserved the shitty hand he got dealt with. He got through his childhood, though it wasn't easy. Then, years later, people that he thought were his friends had him go through that same traumatic experience again."
"Aaron had never told me about what happened in the academy."
"I don't think he remembers anything."
Logan regretted ever getting angry at Aaron. He regretted ignoring him. If he could help Aaron in anyway, then he would do it.
"I'll call Raymond and ask him."
"Dirk is still out there." Pete warned him but Logan didn't care.
"Aaron has been protecting me since my family was murdered. It's time that I do what I can to protect him."
"Why do you care?" Pete asked, staring at him.
"Why shouldn't I care about him?"
Logan didn't wait around for him to ask anymore questions. He trudged down the stairs with Pete right behind him.
The instant they entered the room, the talking immediately ceased.
"Are you hungry?" Kyle asked, closing down the laptop.
"Kyle, he heard everything." Pete told him, getting right to the point.
Kyle's head swung in his direction, eyes wide. "Aaron didn't want you to know. He was afraid you wouldn't want to be with him once you find out about what happened to him."
"I'm not going to break up with him."
"Wait..." Harold's gaze flitted between him and Kyle. "I thought you were dating Aaron."
"We both are dating Aaron." Logan told him. He gripped Kyle's hand with his own and gave it a squeeze. He didn't want to hide their relationship anymore.
Harold kept silent for a few seconds, before looking at Kyle. "We'll talk about this later."
Kyle's only response was a subtle nod of his head.
"He knows Pawel." Pete told them.
"How do you know him?" Kyle asked.
"My friend Raymond is his cousin."
"When was the last time you saw him?"
"Before my family's trial. Raymond hasn't heard from him in over two years."
"Do you think Raymond would help us try to locate him?"
"Let me call him."
Kyle exchanged a look with his boss but Logan had already made up his mind to do this.
"I know what you're going to say but I don't care. If this can help Aaron, let me talk to him."
"Do you trust him?"
"Yes, I do."
"It's your call boss." Kyle said, taking a seat.
"Give him the phone." Harold put a hand on his arm. "Talk to him like you usually do. Ease into that conversation. You know him, we don't."
Logan gave him a nod, letting him know he understood what he was saying. He took the phone and dialed Raymond's number.
"Hey, Logan. What's up, man?"
"I was just checking in. I didn't get to talk to you earlier."
"We're still under lock down. I'm going out of my mind."
"I'm sorry for dragging you into this mess."
"It's not your mess either. So, don't worry."
Logan let a minute of silence stretched before he decided to ask about Pawel.
"I was just sitting here, thinking about all those dinners at your house. I miss those times."
"I was just telling Emma the same thing."
"When all this is over, we should do that. Like the old days."
"I wish it would be like the old days. I still can't figure out why Pawel cut contact with us."
Logan looked at the others when Pawel's name was mentioned.
"You still haven't heard from him?"
"He called me a two months ago."
"What did he want?"
"He was vague about it. He kept saying he was sorry for being a terrible cousin."
"Anything else?"
"No, he hung up. But I could hear some shouting in the background. It sounded like a bar."
"Did you make out any distinct sounds? Anything?"
"No, nothing...wait. I heard someone talking about Reskos."
"Reskos. I've never heard of that bar."
"Maybe I heard wrong."
"At least you heard from him."
"I have to go. Emma is knocking on the door."
"I'll see you guys soon."
"Take care of yourself."
"You too." Logan hung up the phone.
Kyle was at the laptop, fingers tapping at the keyboard. "Reskos Bar is a private owned Bar. You need access to be a part of this establishment. It's a two day drive away from here."
"Kyle, I need you to let Pete check this out. We need to make sure it's legit before we make any move."
