Logan glanced at his phone for the fourth time and a sigh drifted pass his lips. He was the cause of Aaron being kidnapped. He had been too hasty with him, blaming him for his family being held hostage by Dirk.
"You told me that nothing would happen to them. Get my family back safe."
Logan grimaced as he recalled how he had spoken to him. It hadn't been Aaron's fault. I'm so sorry Aaron for giving you the silent. Please, wherever you are, stay safe.
"Why are you sitting here by yourself?"
Logan looked over his shoulder to find his Aunt standing behind him.
"I'm just thinking." He put his phone down and leaned back against the couch with his eyes closed.
His Aunt walked closer and took a seat next to him. "Do you have anything that you want to tell?"
Logan opened his eyes and looked up at her. "I'm not sure what to tell you."
"Tell it to me point blank. I'm not going to be angry with you, no matter what it is."
He stared at her for a moment then after taking a deep breath, he told her everything. Not every detail but enough so she could get the gist of it.
"I never should have gotten angry with him. It's my fault that he's missing. If only I had..."
"Logan, it wasn't your fault. He was doing his job."
"I know, but still I'm scared of losing him. Aaron and Kyle are very important to me. We just started dating and..."
"Wait a minute..." His Aunt held up her hand to stop him from talking.
"What is it?"
"You're dating him and his best friend?"
"Yes, I am." Logan stretched out his answer.
"Both? At the same time?"
"Yes."
His Aunt leaned back and stared at him, her face showing no form of expression. Logan had decided tell her everything because he didn't want to hide his relationship from her.
She had to get used to him dating two guys.
"I'll have to get used to it but I want to ask you a question." She leaned forward and grasped his hands.
"What is it?"
"Do they make you happy?"
"Yes, they do." Logan answered with no hesitation.
"Okay."
"That's it?"
"Yes, I have nothing to say." She got up from her seat then looked at him inquiringly.
"Is there a problem?"
"They're both very handsome guys."
"I know."
"Very handsome."
Logan scrunched his eyes, trying to gauge her meaning.
"You said that already."
"I know." She grinned at him. "I bet they're great kissers."
Logan let out a groan. "Aunt Tara, I'm not going to have this conversation with you."
"Oh, come on. Why not?"
"No...not gonna happen."
Logan stood up and practically ran from the room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"I think you should lay low for a while."
Pawel frowned down at the phone in his hands.
"Why?"
"My contact hasn't gotten back to me."
"Do you think he's dead?"
"I don't know. But if he is, then you might be in danger."
Pawel pushed the curtain aside to look outside. He had known about the risks when he had chosen to confess to the police. The guilt of what Brett and his friends did to Aaron was still eating away at his conscience.
Although he hadn't participated, he was still an accessory to the fact.
"We can't let Brett get away any longer. He needs to pay for what he did. They all do."
"Why don't you try talking to your cousin's friend?"
"Logan?"
"Yeah. Maybe he could help us."
Did he really want to ask Logan for help?
"I don't know."
"Why not? He could talk to Detective Finn."
"I haven't seen him since the trial."
"It doesn't matter."
"Fine. I'll ask my cousin for his number."
"Use the phone that I got you. We can't have them tracing the call."
"I think it's time for me to return home."
"Are you that's safe?"
"I don't know but I can't keeping hiding."
"Okay. Stay safe and don't hesitate to call me for anything."
"I won't."
Pawel hung up his phone then moved away from the window.
He strode to the table and took a seat in front of his laptop. He stared at the folder before clicking on it.
Inside the folder was a video of the assault. The faces of the four perpetrators could be clearly seen. He wasn't in the room when the rape occurred but he had heard them talking about. He hadn't heard everything.
Heard enough that he tried to stop it from happening but it had been too late. When Brett found out, he had threatened to frame him for the crime. Pawel had avoided them for the rest of his stay at the academy.
At the academy Brett had enough influence that he had practically gotten away with everything.
After graduating from the academy, he had quickly hightailed it out of there.
He transferred all the evidence from his laptop to a flash drive then erased everything from his laptop. He got up and picked up the duffel bag from the floor before leaving the house.
Once inside his vehicle, he removed the gloves from his hands then started the car. He had changed vehicles a couple of days ago because he felt that the color had been too conspicuous.
Maybe he was being paranoid, but he needed to be extra cautious. He drove pass Reskos Bar without going inside.
It was time for the truth to come out.
