352. Surgical Necessity

AN: this is very premature but I'm not sure if I'm going to have internet towards the end of this week and the weekend, so here is NEXT weekend's chapter a little early😊

On December 1st, Fabian had already opened the first window in his Hot Wheels advent calendar while Mapi had already got the playroom Christmas tree out for decorating when Fabian was back from nursery.

Kaia was helping Mapi get the other various decorations out, but she had to try and schedule their main Christmas tree shopping around her surgery recovery.

It was a tradition they wanted to have every year, even with the twins only a month old and Kaia about to be in full recovery mode, they wanted to go out as a family and pick a real tree to put in the living room.

Fabian was most excited about it, especially because it was the first time they'd be going with Sebastian, Katherine and their children.

But Luca also loved how Christmas was panning out at school, how different it was from primary school in England and learning about all of the Spanish/Catalan traditions.

"Of course he loves the poo log." Mapi laughs as her and Kaia enter the Joan Gamper main building. "Maybe I'll get him one for Christmas."

Kaia rolls her eyes with a smile, pocketing her car keys. "I think you're going to have to get him one before then, since the tradition is to feed it every night until Christmas Eve, no?" She chuckles.

"Ok." Mapi accepts amusedly, slipping her hand into Kaia's now it's free. "I'll surprise him with one when I pick him up from school today."

It was a big step for Mapi, something others would think was dramatic and nothing to celebrate.

But she had agreed to pick Luca up from school on her own, she had told Kaia in confidence that she felt fully comfortable driving with Luca in the car.

It also helped Mapi's confidence massively that Sebastian and Katherine agreed easily, knowing they could trust Mapi with their eldest son.

"I'm so proud of you." Kaia says as she places a kiss on Mapi's cheek.

"Kaia." Pere suddenly calls out from behind them, walking in through the entrance with a bag in his hand. "We need to talk, privately."

"Privately?" Mapi mumbles under her breath, knowing damn well that Pere didn't have anything to say that Kaia's own wife couldn't hear.

"I'll catch up." Kaia says to Mapi softly. "Just let Miquel know I'm here."

"Oh, he doesn't need to know you're here anymore." Pere interrupts plainly. "As of today, I am back as the full time manager of this team."

Mapi and Kaia share a look of uncertainly, but they both try to mask it with pure confusion.

His probation period was over? He had been allowed back here as their manager?

"What did you want to talk to me about?" Kaia asks as she crosses her arms, feeling like the fourth captaincy might be ripped of her.

"Let me take your bag." Mapi offers, slipping the gym bag off Kaia's shoulder gently before turning to leave.

Pere sighs sharply when Mapi leaves, like he was impatient she didn't do it sooner. "Your surgery tomorrow." He mentions. "You have to postpone it to a later date."
