The Story Of Us
Chapter 10
Emily's POV

Date story took place: 7/17/09
Age: 11

When Caleb returned back home from vacation later on that week, Ethan and I were sitting on my front porch eating ice cream. Once I saw their black Suburban turn into their driveway, I immediately sprinted over to the car where Caleb was getting out. I flung my arms around him and we both fell into the grass, laughing.

"You're not allowed to go on another trip this summer unless I'm with you, got it?" I asked him.

"Yes ma'am." He smiled as we sat up. To my surprise, Caleb enveloped me in another hug, this one much longer.

"I've missed you so much." He said. My heart started pounding in my chest. And in that very moment, all those feelings I had developed for Ethan over this past week totally left and the old feelings I had for Caleb replaced them. Except they were stronger this time.

I pulled away first and smiled at him. "I have someone for you to meet!" I said standing up. I grabbed Caleb's hands and helped him up and led him over to my porch.

"Caleb, this is Ethan, Ethan this is Caleb." I said smiling, glancing at each one of them. I noticed Ethan's eyes staring at Caleb and I's hands which were still attached. I immediately pulled my hand from his and shoved it in my pocket. I guess Caleb didn't realize we were holding hands either because he was just as surprised as I was.

They gave each other small waves and smiled.

"Ethan just moved in a few houses down." I explained to Caleb. "And he also plays baseball." I nudged him in the shoulder with my elbow.

"Yeah," Ethan started. "I play first base."

Caleb and Ethan started a conversation about their playing positions in baseball, a topic I wasn't really interested in.

While they were talking, I couldn't help thinking about Caleb. The way he smiled at me when I ran towards him. The feeling I got when we hugged. The way his hand felt in mine. I bit my lip to keep from smiling.

"Emily!" I saw a hand wave in front of my face. I snapped out of my daze and saw Caleb in front of me.

"Where's Ethan?" I asked.

"He went home." He replied. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine." I nodded my head, grinning. "Now, you've got to tell me how your trip to the beach went. I know it was totally miserable without me." I smirked.

"Oh, yeah. Totally." He laughed.
