The Story Of Us
Chapter 35
Emily's POV

Date story took place: 7/11/12
Age: 14

"Ethan, c'mon," I groaned. Here we are on the cruise and all Ethan wants to do is hang out inside playing video games. I mean, seriously, when do we get the chance to be out in the middle of an ocean, land miles away?

"Let's just go walk around the ship. You and I?" I ask, hoping that would get his attention. Nope. His face was glued to the screen and was for sure not going to leave for awhile.

I was fed up. I got up from where I was sitting next to Ethan. I grabbed the video game control and paused the game. All the other kids who were playing with him started grumbling.

"Emily, what are you doing?" Ethan asked in an annoyed tone.

"I've only been asking for the past few days for you to spend time with me but all you want to do is play a stupid game you can do at home." My voice rose.

He stood up and snatched the control out of my hand. "Well, I don't want to." He unpaused the game and sat back down.

Tears threatened to spill out, but I wasn't going to let them.

"Dang, man." One of the boys laughed. I glared at him and he immediately wiped the smirk off his face.

I ran my hand through my hair and let out a sigh and left him.

I walked out to the deck. It was dark, windy, and cold. I placed my arms on the railing and looked out onto the endless ocean, which was lit up by the moon.

"Emily?" I heard a voice behind me. I turned my head and found Caleb. His hands were in his jacket pockets, hair flying all over.

I gave him a small smile. "Hey, I thought you were hanging out with your family?" I asked.

He shrugged his shoulders and stood next to me, also placing his arms on the rail.

"Hayley and Annie wanted to go to the kids club or something, so my parents said I could do whatever."

I nodded my head and returned back towards the ocean.

"What's wrong?" He asked with a concerned tone.

I shook my head and laughed. "Ethan's been a total ass this whole entire trip, but hey, what's new?"

"I'm sorry," Caleb frowned.

I looked over at him. "It's not your fault." I lowered my head down and stared at my hands.

We were silent for a moment, not saying anything. We just looked out at the darkness.

"I broke up with Madison a few days ago." He spoke out.

I was in complete shock. "What? Why?" I asked, confused.

He just laughed, not looking at me. He opened his mouth to say something, then closed it, and opened it again as if he found the right words to say.

"I told her I had feelings for you." He fumbled with his hands.

I snapped my head towards him in confusion.

He glanced over at me and continued. "That night I told you I didn't want to date you or anything, I lied. I mean, I of course don't want our friendship to be ruined but I wanted to be with you. I honestly didn't know what I was saying. I hated myself for telling you that, I really did." He laughed then turned towards me to where our bodies were close to touching.

He kept his head down. "I was pissed when you told me you were dating Ethan and was jealous, so I went to Madison thinking maybe I'd get you out of my mind and just move on. But hell, that didn't work at all. I just fell harder for you." He took a step towards me to where we were pressed together. We gazed into each other's eyes for what seemed like eternity.

"Emily,"

"Yeah?" I whispered.

"I like you," he chuckled and shook his head. "A lot."

Then he leaned down and pressed his lips against my own. I waited years and years for this to happen, my first kiss, and here I was. It was all just how I imagined it to be. I practically exploded inside. It felt like fireworks were going off in my stomach. We stayed like that for awhile until he pulled away.

I grinned. "Caleb," I mocked him.

"Yeah," he smiled down at me.

"I love you. A lot." I placed my hands on each side of his face and pulled him down towards me, kissing him again. Except this time for much, much longer.

Then Ethan walked out and things just went down hill from there. Except I think I'm just going to leave off there and save the rest of the story for another time. I just felt the need to tell you how Caleb and I started out together.
