The Story Of Us
Chapter 11
Emily's POV

Date story took place: 9/21/09
Age: 11

Summer seemed to last for a good 3.5 seconds and then started fifth grade. I thought fourth grade was horrible but by the sound of my teachers and all the sixth graders, it sounded like it was going to be a miserable year.

Luckily, Caleb and I were in the same class this year, but Ethan wasn't. At least his classroom was right across from ours so we weren't that far away.

Our class was the first one of the other classes out to recess today. Caleb and I walked to the tree, where we always hung out, discussing what we were going to vlog about today.

"Emily!" A girl came running up to me, though I wasn't sure who. I turned my head to find Madison standing at my side. I didn't like her being close to Caleb at all. Even though I know he liked her about two years ago, I still feel like he somewhat has feelings for her.

"What's up?" I asked casually, trying not to act annoyed.

"I know someone who likes you and so does the entire school." She grinned.

Could it be Caleb? Wait, no. It wouldn't make any sense her telling me that Caleb liked me while he was standing by my side.

"If the entire school knows who likes her, then why don't we?" Caleb spoke up and I nodded my head.

"I don't know. I guess he doesn't want you guys knowing or something, but I'm telling you guys anyway because you two would be cute." She gave a little jump and clasped her hands together.

Cute? I'm eleven. It's okay to have crushes but to actually date at this age is just a tad bit extreme.

"Well, who is it?" Caleb asked in an impatient tone.

Madison leaned in and cupped her hands around her mouth. "Ethan." She whispered loud enough for us both to here.

My mouth dropped and so did Caleb's. "We're just friends though." I said still shocked.

"I don't know. I just think you too would be a great couple! Ooh!" She gasped. "Here he comes now! Don't tell him I said anything." She skipped off.

I kept my back turned towards Ethan for as long as I could so I wouldn't have to face the awkwardness of the whole me knowing that he likes me type of thing.

"Hey Emily!" I here him shout. He completely ignored Caleb who was still right next to me.

I looked at Caleb and mouthed help. Instead of an okay back, he darted his eyes to the right of me signaling that Ethan was right there.

I cringed my eyes before turning towards him.

"Hey, Ethan." I put on the worse fake smile ever. I could hear Caleb snorting behind me, so I shot him a glare.

"What's so funny?" Ethan laughed, looking back and forth between us.

"Yeah, that's what I would like to know, Caleb." I turned back and stared at him.

Caleb was still laughing. "Oh, um, yeah. I don't know." He chuckled, scratching the back of his neck.

I rolled my eyes at his obnoxiousness and couldn't help but laugh myself.

The recess bell finally rung and all the students pushed each other into the cafeteria for lunch. Caleb and I sat in our normal spots while Ethan went to go get his tray.

"Could you have been more obvious?" I laughed.

"Your face was priceless." He said, stuffing chips in his mouth.

I sighed. "I don't know what to do know. I feel so awkward around him now that I know he likes me." I glance at him standing in the lunch line and I caught him staring at me. He quickly averted his eyes to something else in the cafeteria.

I put my head on the table and groaned.

"Just pretend he doesn't." Caleb suggested. "Or tell him that you know and that you want to stay friends or whatever."

"I can't just tell him that." I sat my head back up. "What if some girl you liked told you that she just wanted to stay friends?" I asked him.

"That's when you don't tell anybody who you like, like I do." He pointed his water bottle at me.

"Oh, so you like someone? Who is it?" I teased.

He smiled at me. "That's for me to know and for you to wonder."
