The ride, although only two hours, seemed to be the longest ride you had ever experienced. Each minute was a reminder that your home was growing further and further away. Your few friends, all the memories you had there, would be gone.
You notice the scenery around you changed drastically, from the peaceful nature to the rushed, giant city know as the Big Apple. Your eyes took the shape of dinner plates, seeing the famous Empire State Building off in the distance. Buildings crammed together, smoke lingering in the air, either from buildings, cigarettes, or factories. You could feel the air had changed, you were so used to clean country air, the city air felt like ten pounds distributed to your lungs. You coughed violently, and your mother joined you for a moment.

Yes, you had been to New York a few times, but every time, it amazed you all over again. You'd go back home with a wide grin, wondering when you could go back.
This time though, you were here for good.

Driving through the busy streets, your mother pulled up at an apartment building, looking old and crummy. Staring up at it, you made a face, internally questioning whether this building had an up-to-date security system. And if a 15 year old could write their will yet.
Your mother, as cheerful as ever, rolled in the suitcases, and signed in. As you walked in the lobby, you gagged at the disgusting after smell of old cigarettes. The man at the desk seemed to notice, and agree with you, as he sprayed air freshener around.

"You'll get used to it." He assured you, running a hand through his grey hair briefly.

You helped your mother carry the suitcases and boxes up, although most of your stuff was in storage.

"Here we are!" Your mother announced in a sing-songy voice. You merely grunted in response, showing no emotion, although you felt more than you could count.
The walls were a gross brown, and the paint was peeling. The floor wasn't that bad, hard wood isn't all too hard to sweep and mop. You wander in the kitchen, and gagged at the terrible choice of wallpaper.
'I only hope it was yellow to begin with..' You thought, leaving to check out the rest of the apartment. You saw your mother in what you guessed was her room, and turned to the last two doors. You opened the closest one, and which lead to the bathroom. Then you made your way to your bedroom door. Opening it, you showed a small smile. It was actually nice. Spacious, with a good sized closet, f/c walls, and white curtains. You had two windows. One overlooking the street, and another leading to the fire escape.
You already figured out where everything would be in your head, and rushed to grab all your boxes.

>time skip because I know how tiring unpacking is<

Finally, you were done.

It took you one day to arrange your room, and the end result was pleasing.
You had your f/c bed by the window with the fantastic view of the street (note the sarcasm), placed your dresser and desk in their spots, and got a nice fuzzy carpet on the hard wood floor. You had wandered up to the roof, and found it pleasant and calming up there, especially after dusk.
You opened your computer and checked your social websites (i.e. Tumblr, Wattpad, Instagram, whatever), then got ready for bed.

While brushing your teeth, you heard a clatter outside, sounding like it was in your room. You rushed to finish, spitting and rinsing, then padded to your room and opened the door cautiously. You had your fire escape window open to make your room less musty. On your windowsill, there stood.... a stray cat, with green eyes and pretty soft blonde fur. You waved your arms at it and it left, seeming to roll its eyes at you. You closed your window and returned to to bathroom to finish completely.
Finally, you crawled in bed, sighing in content as you drifted to sleep.

The turtles dimension:

It was time for patrol, and right now, the turtles were lined up as Master Splinter gave them the usual speech, then let them leave.
Leo was in front, jumping from rooftop to rooftop, with the others close behind.
Halting, Leo and his brothers peered down into an alleyway, where a small gang of Purple Dragons were harassing a young girl.
Leonardo jumped down first, then Raphael, Michelangelo, and last but not least, Donatello. After fighting off the PD's, Donnie went to make sure the girl was alright. Because she had fainted, Donnie could check her for injuries without interruption. Confirming she was fine, they climbed out of sight, and watched her come to, and leave, a little confused.

They continued on, and soon their shadow doubles joined them. They didn't know where they came from, all they knew was that they were friendly, and gave them the ability to look into your world, your dimension. Donnie couldn't figure out what they were, so the turtles called them shadow doubles. They arrived a while after the boys returned to their New York, ready to take the city back.

[Flashback time!]

Before you encountered the turtles, before they changed, they were somewhat normal. Leo wasn't a walking puddle, Raph didn't look like a campfire, Donatello had green skin instead of green grass and dirt, and Mikey didn't have leaves for limbs.
It began when they were in an intense battle with the Kraang. The evil little aliens had created a weapon to use on New York, and if they were successful, soon the entire world. The turtles of course, couldn't allow that to happen, and tried to foil their plans. And they did, at a price.
When the turtles had emerged victorious after the long and tiresome battle, they didn't see one last Kraang, who was inching its way to the weapon. It fired at the mutant turtles, separating their spirits from their bodies.

Leo became water, calm and peaceful, loud and powerful.
Donatello was earth, complex and layered, strong and soft.
Raph became fire, wild and untamed, while being warm and comforting.
Mikey was wind, playful and refreshing, strong and unpredictable.

Disoriented and shocked, they stumbled about, seeing their bodies fall limp on the floor. Somehow they ended up on a damaged teleporter. Mikey bumped into the control panel, and they were sent away, farther than they assumed, to your neighbors corn field.

They had no way of getting back, and even if they could, Shredder, Purple Dragons, and the Kraang were keeping a look out for them at all times. The turtles had to wait for four years. In their dimension, it was only four months.
Donnie soon figured out that they were in a whole other dimension, and worked day and night to contact Master Splinter, April or Casey.
Luckily, Donnie was able to reach them, and gave precise instructions to April and Splinter, who then built another teleporter to bring them back.
The turtles, in their element form, traveled back to their beloved city, to find it a mess.
In their reluctant absence, the evil groups they fought 24/7 had taken over, spreading chaos and havoc. Their friends had taken shelter in the Lair with Master Splinter, that had yet to be discovered, thankfully.

The Kraang, for some reason, preserved the turtles bodies. The group fought the Kraang and repossessed the bodies, and in the Lab, Donnie figured out how to return to them.
After that, they worked nonstop to return New York to order. It took them a long time, and by then, it was too late. The memory of them had faded from you.

To say they were heartbroken was an understatement.

[End of flashback]

Through the shadow doubles, they kept an eye on you, making sure you were alright.

They wished they could see you, but when they returned, the teleporters circuits fried, and was basically scrap metal.

Now, they had a sliver of a chance to get you back. A special night was coming, during a special time, in a special place, where something, yes, special would happen. They would combine with their shadow doubles, and be allowed to see you for one night. They didn't know what could happen if something went wrong, if someone did something they shouldn't. All they wanted was to see their heroine once more. The little girl who saved them.
