That night, Harmony lay in her hammock, thinking about the next morning. The next morning would bring the battle with the White Witch. And this would be the final battle. Oliver would go home after this. Esther would probably go back with her father. Swaine would go home with Marcassin. Everyone would go back home. And what would become of her? She had no home to go to, with Xanadu gone. Perhaps she could go and live in Perdida. After all, it was ruled by Queen Khulan. It could become home, with a bit of time. Or maybe she could stay a drifter. Just go back to life as usual. With stealing, and lying, and cheating, and without any harp playing little girls, annoying fairies that can grow on you, her thieving best friend, her darling little brother, and... Marcassin. The prince whom she found herself in love with. He wouldn't want anything to do with a witch thief. Would he?
That was when she heard the door of the cabin open, and she quickly sat up to see Marcassin walking in. He looked just as surprised to see her awake as she felt to see him.
"Oh! Sorry Harmony!" He whispered, glancing over at Esther's sleeping figure. "I didn't mean to wake you!" Harmony shook her head, struggling to get out of the hammock.
"Oh, no, it's fine! I was awake anyway!" She whispered back. Marcassin came over and took her hand, trying to help her out, but she fell out and into his arms. She looked up at him, and he smiled at her. She smiled back, blushing, trying not to laugh.
"Why don't we go out onto the deck?" He whispered. "We could go out on the top deck..." he helped her to her feet and pushed her hair behind her ear. "...where we could be alone." She blushed again, then gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"Alright. But we best be quiet. I heard King Tom setting his troops ready for morning and Kublai is up there driving the ship. Plus, Swaine's playing cards with a few of the men from the crew." Marcassin nodded, then the two went out onto the deck and slipped past all of the men, and up onto the top deck. Marcassin helped her up, and looked up at the stars, her laying her head on his shoulder as he wrapped his arms around her.
"So what's going to happen after tomorrow?" Marcassin asked her. She shrugged.
"I suppose Oliver is going to return to Motorville. Drippy's going back to the Fairygrounds. Esther will go home to Al Mamoon with Rashaad. Swaine will probably go home with you."
"And what about you?" He asked, her feeling his warm breath on her ear. She shrugged again.
"I don't know. My goal in life was to find the Pure Hearted One and to stop Shadar, to bring justice to my mother and Queen Khulan's deaths. Now that it's over, I haven't got an idea what to do with my life. Probably go live out my days in Perdida, or continue drifting."
"By yourself?" He asked. She nodded. "Well that's no life to live. Not even Gascon to go with you? Maybe a husband in your future? Perhaps a child to inherit your powers?" Harmony smirked up at him.
"Swaine would want to return home to you. And there's only one man whom I would want as my husband and to raise a child with." Marcassin raised an eyebrow at her.
"Oh really? Let me think of the men I know that's in your life." He pretended to think for a moment, making her laugh. "Let me see... Oliver's too young, and your brother at that, Kublai's too old and taken, King Tom is a cat, Master Abull doesn't seem your type, I can't think of why you'd want to be with Gascon, even after all this time, Drippy... meh." She laughed again, then he glanced down at her again, a smile on his face. "I can only think of one other man in your life, and he's no man." She shook her head.
"No..." She stood on her toes and gave him a kiss. "He's a sage. And the only one who believed in me, even when I was lying." He smiled and kissed her back.
"I think it was the other way around, as I was the one missing my belief." She laughed again and they kissed a third time, Marcassin dipping her.
"Aww, there's lovely!" They heard a little welsh voice say. Harmony leaned upside down over Marcassin's arm and he looked up to see Drippy standing there with his arms crossed.
"Drippy, beat it!' Harmony said, her cheeks going red as the blood rushed to her face. Drippy chuckled.
"Just going to say, you two had better head to bed, mun. We've got a long day tomorrow." Then he left, and Marcassin pulled Harmony to her feet, smiling as their foreheads touched.
"Harmony, I will gladly let you come home with Gascon and I. If you'll join us." Harmony laughed.
"Thank you, Marcassin. There is nothing I would love more than to be with you forever and ever."
"Hey! Now that's cheating!" They heard Swaine shouting, and she sighed.
"And of course, that big oaf." Marcassin nodded, laughing. Then the two went back to the bed.
