"Come back here, blood traitor!" Rosella ran as fast as she could, away from Malfoy and his cronies. "Why don't you call your daddy and have him come murder us?"
"Leave me alone, Malfoy!" She cried, turning a corner and hiding in a dark room. She listened as they ran past, then flopped onto a chair and burst into tears. She hated him! She hated Sirius Black and his stupid Jamie! She wasn't Rosella! She wouldn't take the name that the man who murdered Harry's parents gave her!
As she cried, she found a tissue box sitting on an end table next to her, and a comforting, crackling fire burning away. She was certain that those hadn't been there when she came in. Or the picture of the young man and woman that lay on the floor.
She picked up the photo and studied it. The woman had the same black hair that she did that curled at the end, and the same heart shaped face and round eyes. The man had the same cocoa brown eyes she did, with a straight nose and a big smile. The woman was laughing in the photo, while the man was speaking to the photographer. He wore a black suit, while she had on a gorgeous wedding dress. It made Rosella chuckle a little as she sniffed, then she turned the picture over to read the back. It read:
Sirius and Marlene Black
June 6, 1978
Happy marriage, you two!
From your best friends,
James and Lily Potter
This was Sirius Black? This man? He looked so much like her when he was young! And the woman, Marlene, she was beautiful. Best friends with James and Lily Potter as well. Rosella felt sick to her stomach as she stared at the photo. Malfoy and everyone was right. She was the daughter of a murderer. All the evidence pointed to it.
Peter Pettigrew and all those Muggles were killed on the day before she was found on the Weasleys front door step.
Sirius Black went missing for a whole day after the attack.
The woman who looked like Marlene from her memories as a baby.
The man who looked like Sirius from the memory of the man walking away.
The little boy who wore his father's glasses upside down who reminded her of Harry.
It all added up. And this picture was taken two years exactly before she was born.
"They got married and had me on the same day." She whispered, curling up in the chair, another tear sliding down her cheek and onto her lap.
"It was as if the universe had planned it." She heard that familiar voice say, and she saw Sirius crouch before her. She wiped more tears away.
"So now what?" She asked. "You going to kill Harry now and be done with it?" Sirius caressed her cheek.
"Oh no, dear Jamie, no." He whispered. That name again. "Listen to me, let me explain. It wasn't me who killed those Muggles all those years ago. It was Peter Pettigrew."
"Liar."
"Let me finish." He told her gently. "He killed them, then chopped his own finger off to make it look like I'd done it. When we were younger, Peter, James, Remus, and I were all good mates. Remus, or Professor Lupin if you prefer, has a dark secret that I can't share with you, that's his job. But, because of this secret, James, Peter, and I became Animaguses. James was a buck, I am a dog, and Peter was a rat. Nobody knew we were Animaguses, so Peter used his to fake his death and put the blame on me.
"You see? I'm innocent. I'm here to go after Peter. Your "brothers", so to speak, have been keeping him as a pet for over twelve years now."
"Scabbers?" She asked, thinking back to the mangy old rat that Ron claimed he hated, but was always upset when Crookshanks went after him.
Sirius nodded. "Yes, Scabbers."
"He's dead." Rosella told him. "Hermione's cat, Crookshanks, ate him. Ron found blood all over his bed where Scabbers was laying." Sirius looked taken back at this information.
"Hm, odd." He muttered.
"What?" She asked.
"Nothing." He told her quickly, then helped her to her feet. "Now, you best run off to bed. Don't want Filch catching you." She nodded, and he hugged her at the door. "Goodnight, Jamie." She looked up at him.
"Rosella. My name isn't Jamie anymore. Its Rosella." Then she hurried out of the room.
