"I'm afraid it won't be that easy getting Nicky to cooperate," Albus told them as he came downstairs. "She's been in a lot of emotional pain since the accident."
"What happened? If it's okay to ask." Gascon murmured. Albus sighed, running his fingers through his messy black hair, before coming over and sitting down with them.
"She got hurt at work." He explained quickly. "There was some illegal hippogriff tradings going on, and she was the one sent to end it..."
Nicky snuck around the corner the building, hearing the squawking of the hippogriffs and rattling chains.
"Shut up! Ya buzzard!" Smack! The hippogriff went quiet.
"Let's get this over with." Another man's voice whispered, and she stepped out from the shadows.
"Wouldn't want to be caught now, would we?" She growled, aiming her wand at the two men, who each held a hippogriff on a chain. She gave a bow towards the hippogriffs so they'd let her work, but it didn't work.
"Get her, Hooffeathers!" The hippogriff roared at her bow, and attacked her.
She awoke to lying in St. Mungo's, her spine shattered, unable to walk or sit up straight ever again.
"... she completely shut down after that." Albus continued. "Stopped doing magic altogether! Made us move so she wouldn't look like a Squib! And sure knocked some confidence out of Rizzie."
"Who's Rizzie?" Camille asked, just as a girl, not too much younger than them, came running into the room.
"Daddy! The other kids are being mean to me!" She told Albus, diving into his arms, and he held her close. "Kept calling me a Lightning Kid, just because I accidentally shocked one of them!" Albus rubbed her back, and looked to the kids.
"Rizzie, I'd like you to meet some friends of mine." The little girl looked up, shocked to see the others. "This is Gascon, Camille, and Tiny. And you already know Abyssa."
"Hey, Riz!" The little girl smiled, and crawled off of Albus's lap, then ran over to Abyssa, who brought her onto her lap.
"Why is she called Rizzie?" Camille asked, and Albus chuckled.
"It's short for Mary Elizabeth." He explained. "Nicky wasn't a fan of just Mary, or Lizzie, or any variation of the two names, and Rizzie just stuck." Camille suddenly jumped up.
"Well, this is perfect! We don't Nicky then! Rizzie could be the Great Sage!" Rizzie looked up at her, confused and unsure.
"A Great Sage?" But Abyssa stood up at this.
"Absolutely not! Rizzie's too young to become a Great Sage, and besides! She doesn't know any magic, anyways!"
