The school ball was coming up for fourth years and up, though they could invite younger students if they wanted. And Sirius really wanted to invite Karina. He knew that she'd love it, and he really liked her.

James was, of course, asking Lily Evans to go. Remus didn't have a date, and Peter was hoping that Alice Rectum would go with him, though everybody knew that she had her eyes on Frank Longbottom.

That day in the Great Hall, James went up to Lily. When he reached her, she groaned as he fell to his knee, pulling out a small box.

"Lily Evans! As everyone here knows, I have loved you since our first year!" he exclaimed, and everyone turned around to face them, Lily burying her face in her hands.

"Potter. Shut. Up!" She hissed, but James ignored her.

"And I was hoping ever since then, that you would accompany me to the school ball this Saturday night!" He opened the box, and inside was a candy ring. "Will you?" Lily stood up.

"No, I will not go to the ball with you! Now stop asking me!" She shouted, before flouncing away, Marlene McKinnon right behind her.

James slumped back to his seat, and Remus patted his back. "Nice try, Prongs." Karina reached over and took the candy ring from the box, then ate it.

"Ooh. Minty." She said, smiling.

"Hi, Remus!" Came a loud voice. Remus turned around, and forced a smile on his face.

"Ah, hi, Bertha." He said through gritted teeth, before looking at the other Marauders. "You guys know Bertha, right? from Ravenclaw?" The other four nodded.

"Yeah. Hi, Bertha." James muttered shortly. Bertha was usually the one who got them in trouble.

"Hey, Jorkins." Sirius mumbled. Karina suddenly became very focused on her food and Peter gave a small wave.

"Hi, guys!" She said smiling, then turned back to Remus. "Any way, Remus, I've been wanting to ask you something for a long long long long long time, but I've been really really really nervous to do it because I thought that you would say no, but any way! Will you go to the ball with me?" Remus's eyes went wide, and he looked back at the others, then back at Bertha.

"Uh, er, sorry, Bertha! But I, uh, already have a date!" Bertha's smile fell and she crossed her arms.

"Really? Who is it?" Remus's eyes went wide again. He hadn't expected that.

"Who is it?" He squeaked, swallowing. "Well, um, I'll tell you who it is! It's um, its..."

"It's Karina!" James blurted out. Remus, Sirius, and Karina all turned their heads at him so fast, they nearly got whiplash.

"What!?" they all exclaimed. James nodded, gesturing at Bertha with his eyes, and Karina and Remus began nodding very quickly.

"Uh, yeah!" Karina told her, pretending to look sorry. "Yeah, I asked him last week. So, so sorry, Bertha. Maybe next year?" Bertha turned her head away.

"Fine! I'll just ask someone else to go with me!" Then she flounced away, and Remus buried his face in his hands.

"Damn! Now she'll see we aren't actually going together!" Sirius scoffed, hoping to get back in the game with Karina.

"What're you so worried about? Its just Jorkins!" Karina narrowed her eyes at him.

"Its about her feelings, Sirius!" She told him. "Remus is a kind person, and doesn't want to hurt her feelings!" Sirius shrugged, losing hope.

"Well, then, show up together, have a drink, share a dance, and be done with it! After all, maybe someone else wanted to ask you." Karina rolled her eyes.

"Please. Who'd want to take Foxtrot Potter, the Mini Marauder to the school ball, when they can take Prongs Potter's girl?" Sirius shrugged again, looking at the table ands crossing his arms on the table.

"Actually, I'd kind of like to go with you." There. He laid his card on the table. Now would she pick it up?

Karina's eyes went wide at the words. "Sirius..." She wasn't sure what to say. She wanted to go with him, but her brother was right there! She was a little embarrassed. "I... I..." Sirius looked at her, hopeful, and she nodded, smiling as her face heated up. "Yeah, I'd like to go with you. Sounds fun!" James grunted a little, but said nothing, until he and Sirius were walking to Transfiguration.

"Hey, be careful with Karina." He told Sirius sternly. "I don't want her getting hurt, especially by my best mate. Got it?" Sirius nodded.

"Don't worry, mate. I promise, no harm will come to Karina."
