"Hello, Minister!" Bellowed Percy, sending a neat jinx straight at Thicknesse, who dropped his wand and clawed st the front of his robes, apparently in awful discomfort. "Did I mention I'm resigning?"
"You're joking, Perce!" Shouted Fred as the Death Eater he was battling collapsed under the weight of three separate Stunning Spells.
"Percy can't joke!" Diana snorted, aiming Petrificus Totalus at the Death Eater she was fighting. "He doesn't have a funny bone in his body!" But, thanks to Percy, Thicknesse had fallen to the ground with tiny spiked erupting all over him; he seemed to be turning into some form of sea urchin. Fred looked to Percy with glee.
"You actually are joking, Perce... I don't think I've heard you joke since you were-"
The air exploded. They had been grouped together, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Diana, Fred, and Percy, the three Death Eaters at their feet, one Stunned, one Transfigured, one Petrified; in that fragment of a moments when danger seemed temporarily at bay, the world was rent apart. Diana felt herself flying through the air, and gripped her wand tightly, praying to Merlin that the screams and yells that were her friends, brother, and lover were note the last thing she heard of them...
And then the world resolved itself into pain and semi darkness; she found herself half buried in the wreckage of a corridor that had been subjects to a terrible attack. A sharp pain in her elbow and hot stickiness told her she was bleeding. That was when she saw him.
"Fred!! No!" She screamed the world seeming to be in slow motion as she dug herself out, and ran to him, tears falling.
"No! No no!" Percy came running over, and began to shake Fred, Ron hot on his heels. "No! Fred! No!" Fred's eyes just stared without seeing, the ghost of his last laugh still etched upon his face.
Her world had ended, yet the battle still rang on around her as Harry and Hermione joined them. Her breathing was short, her mind spinning out of control, she couldn't grape the impossibility that Fred Weasley was dead. He had to be faking it!
"Fred! Wake up!" She sobbed, banging on his chest with her fists.
"Get down!" Harry suddenly shouted, as curses flew above their heads. Harry and Ron pulled Hermione to the floor, but Diana lay across Fred's body and Percy lay across her, shielding both of them from any more harm. "Percy! Diana! We've got to move!" Percy shook his head, but Diana only shook with sobs.
"Percy!" Tears ran down Ron's grime coated cheeks as he seized his elder brother's shoulders and pulled, but Percy would not budge. "Percy, Diana, you can't do anything for him! We're going to-!"
Hermione screamed, and Harry, turning, didn't need to cask why. A monstrous spider the side of a small car was trying to climb through the huge hole in the wall: one of Aragog's descendants had joined the fight.
Diana barely heard anything. Her ears were ringing, and she couldn't let go of Fred. She felt Percy's hand on her back, but she didn't move.
"Let's move, NOW!" Suddenly, Harry was pulling her to her feet and pushing her along, Percy and Ron carrying Fred underneath of his armpits. They were about to put him in a niche where armour once stood, but Diana stopped them.
"No!" She said, running up and grabbing Fred, running on pure adrenaline. "Percy, let's get him to the Great Hall! Your parents are there!" Percy nodded, and they ran off, Harry, Ron, and Hermione going to do what they needed to do.
When they reached the Great Hall, they found one of the Patil twins dying, Remus and Tonks lying dead together, Dennis Creevey sobbing over Colin...
"Diana! Fred! Percy!" Diana was suddenly engulfed in Mrs. Weasley's big arms. "What's happened?"
"Freddie?" Diana was released, and she and Percy set Fred down on the ground, where George saw him.
"A wall fell." Percy told them bitterly. "He didn't get out of the way in time." George looked to Diana, his eyed already filling with tear.
"Wait, so you're saying he's... Fred's..." Diana nodded, and they both burst into tears, her hugging her best friend.Later...
Harry came into the Great Hall, and found himself surrounded by the dead or dying. Padma Patil was being covered by a blanket by Trelawney, Colin Creevey was dead, Remus and Tonks were there...
Harry gave a sigh of relief when he saw Diana, still sobbing, but alive. George was there too, and he was crying over his twin.
When Diana saw Harry, her head swirled. She didn't think straight. She went up to Harry and smacked him across the face! "Why'd you have to be the Chosen One!?" She sobbed. "Why, Harry!? This is all your fault! Its because of you Mum and Dad are dead! Its because of you Dumbledore is dead! Because of you, Sirius, Dobby, Professor Snape, Remus, Tonks, Mad-Eye, and Fred are all dead!"
"Diana, calm yourself!" Said Mrs. Weasley, hurrying over and taking her by the shoulders. "You mustn't act like this!" But deep down Harry knew she was right. All of those people, their parents, Dumbledore, Sirius, Dobby, all of them. They had died for Harry's sake. Diana had lost the one man she had loved the most besides Harry because of him. But now, he had to set things right.
