Karina shot a well aimed Stunning spell at the Death Eater, smiling as he went down like a sack of rocks. That was when she felt as if someone had struck her on the back of the head, and she fell to her knees, her head thrown back, seeing stars. She screamed out in pain, her vision blurring, blurring until...
"Look at Potty Potter!"
"Baby Potter!"
"Your jokes are nothing compared to James's!"
"Karina, you can't do this!"
"I suppose its all in bad parenting!"
"Your son is out of control! But I suppose we know who to blame!"
"He's not even your son!"
"Someday, he's going to walk out that door and forget all about you."
"Go away, Karina! Tell your stupid brother that I never want to see him again!"
"I don't need help from a filthy Mudblood and a baby!" These words and voices swirled through her head, and Karina felt the hurt from each phrase each time.
She began to cry, just as her boggart, her worst fear appeared before her. Harry and baby Sirius, lying together, dead, Voldemort standing over them.
"I feel your pain, Karina." Voldemort told her in his strange voice. "Allow me to relieve you of it."
"No!!!" She screamed, fighting him, coming out of the trance and falling forward, catching herself and cutting her hands on the ground, the tears leaving streaks in the dirt on her face. "No! No more!" She cried, before the wall behind her collapsed, and she fell unconscious.
MARAUDERS
It was Ginny, Neville, and Luna who found her. They were running through the halls, trying to find Ron and Hermione, when they saw her, surrounded by rubble, a large gash in her forehead.
"Karina!" They exclaimed, running over as quick as they could, Neville perhaps the fastest. This woman had felt like an aunt to him as much as she was to Harry. She couldn't be dead. She just couldn't be!
They all reached her, and Ginny picked up her wrist to feel for her pulse. They waited a moment, then Ginny shook her head.
"Nothing." She said, a single tear falling from her cheek. "There's no pulse. Karina's dead." Neville let out a shuddering breath. If Karina was dead, there really wasn't much hope left, was there?
He then stood to his feet, took Karina's arm, and pulled Karina up, trying to lift her up bridal style.
"Neville, what are you doing?" Ginny asked him. He grunted.
"Karina's been taking care of me since my parents lost their minds just as much as she's been taking care of Harry! The least I can do is let him see her one last time and get her out of this mess!"
"But Karina's-" Luna started to say, but Ginny cut her off, jumping to her feet and helping Neville lift Karina into his arms.
"Then let's get her to the Great Hall. That's where my mum and dad are with Fred, George, and Percy. Might as well tell them what became of their friend. And she can lay with Remus." Neville nodded, and they started the journey to the Great Hall.
"Guys, Karina-" Luna tried again, but they were running too quickly to pay any attention.
When they reached the Great Hall, Molly saw Neville carrying Karina, her head lolling back, and gasped.
"No, its not true..." Ginny nodded. "You mean..." Ginny nodded again.
"Its true. Karina is dead."
"Wait!" Luna suddenly shouted, stomping her foot. "Set her on the ground! I have to check!" Neville shrugged at Ginny and Molly, then lay Karina in between Fred and Remus. It was a sad sort of trio to see.
Luna then bent down and putting her ear to Karina's chest, and grinned. "Just as I thought!" Arthur, George, and Percy came over, having heard.
"What? What is it?" Luna sat up and smiled at them.
"I hear her heart beating! Its faint, but its there!"
"She's alive?" Neville asked, thinking this was too good to be true. But Luna nodded with a smile.
"Yes. She's alive!" Ginny gasped as her mother hugged her, in complete disbelief. She was alive!
"Only barely." Luna told them, tearing at the hem of her skirt at once. "She lost a lot of blood, but she's still hanging on." She explained, wrapping the torn fabric around the gash in her head. "She needs a blood replenishing potion. Like that one that you told me they gave your dad when he was attacked, Ginny." Ginny shrugged helplessly.
"They'd be at St. Mungo's, Luna. The only person who might be able to make one is..."
"Madam Pomfrey!" Neville exclaimed. "She told me once when I broke my wrist she tried to become a Healer for St. Mungo's, but ended up working here instead! If we find her, she might be able to whip one up!"
"Then let's go find her!" And the three teens went running.
MARAUDERS
Meanwhile, as they ran, Karina was dreaming. She dreamt she was a in dark room, alone. And she was crying.
"It's true, it's all true!" She sobbed. "I'm not like my brother! I'm no Marauder, I'm lucky enough that Harry survived to be raised by me!"
"Karina, that's not how we Marauders think." She heard someone say. She looked up, and saw them.
"I'm no Marauder." She told them. "I never did as well. You were my guides, and I never followed."
"What was the oath we all took when we became part of the Order?" He asked. "As Marauders, we took an oath." She sniffed.
"Make a joke." Lily told her.
"Laugh." Peter added.
"Shake it off." Remus.
"Put on a front." Sirius.
"Don't let down your wall." James.
"Don't let them see how much it hurts." Karina finished, and she sniffed again. "Its hard, James. I'm not like you lot."
"And you're not supposed to be." He said, crouching before her. "You're you, Karina Rose Potter, and you are you. Go give them hell, and don't let them forget."
