Karina and Harry were at the Grangers when it happened.
Karina and the Grangers were having tea, while Harry and Hermione played a game of Monoply, when two owls came flying through the window! The Grangers jumped in their seats, and Karina hurried to the window, Harry right behind her, with Hermione having her back pressed against the wall, frightened.
"I didn't think they'd come here!" Karina exclaimed, grabbing the two owls by their talons and setting them on the windowsill, as Harry came over and untied the letters from their legs.
"But why would they send two, Mum?" He asked her. Karina came over and looked at the letter, and glance up at the Grangers, unsure what to say.
"Wh-what is it?" Mrs. Granger asked. Karina looked back down at the letter
"Dear Miss Granger,
We are hereby pleased to tell you that you have been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of necessary books and equipment, as well as the name of the ministry official coming to explain everything.
"Term begins September 1. We await your owl by no later than July 31.
"Sincerely, Deputy Headmistress Minerva McGonagall."
"Who's th-the ministry official?" Mrs. Granger asked, taking some deep breaths. Karina looked at the bottom of the letter, then let out a sigh.
"I should have known that she'd know."
"What? Who is it?" Mr. Granger asked, calming down. Karina pointed at herself.
"Me, that's who. I'm supposed to explain everything."
"Explain what?" Hermione asked, a bit exasperated. "What just happened?" Karina smiled at Hermione, then gestured to a chair.
"Hermione, you might want to sit down for this." Hermione crept over and sat in the chair, nervously, her parents sitting on the couch with Harry. "Hermione, I'm about to tell you something that may or may not be one of the greatest things you've ever heard. Are you ready?" She nodded.
"Yes, I'm ready." Karina took a deep breath, and grinned at Hermione.
"You're a witch, Hermione." Hermione's eyes went wide.
"I'm a what?"
"A witch. And from what I've seen, you'd make a pretty good one, once you get to know a few spells and all." Hermione shook her head slowly, very unsure.
"That can't be! I'm just, me! Just, Hermione! I can't be some sort of witch!" Karina crouched down beside her chair.
"Hermione, its not a bad thing." She explained more carefully. "Has anything strange ever happened to you? When you were hurt or scared, perhaps?" Mrs. Granger jumped up.
"Oh! Tell her about the books, Hermione!" Hermione smiled a small smile.
"Well, I once read this book about a little girl who was so smart, and had very cruel parents. She used all of her frustration and intelligence to move things around and such. I was ahead a grade level in elementary school, so I thought I'd try it and it worked!" Karina chuckled.
"Strange things can happen when you're a witch or a wizard! I sent Harry to a Muggle elementary school once myself, and got a letter back saying that he'd managed to jump onto the school roof and turned his teacher's wig blue! Luckily, I found a wizarding on that was a bit of a distance, but at least changing the colour of your teacher's hair is more normal." Harry crossed his arms.
"I only did one time!" He told her, before muttering, "once for every colour." But the Grangers were still listening to Karina, less frightened, more interested.
"Muggle?" Mrs. Granger asked.
"Its what we call the nonwizarding type. But Hermione here is a Muggle-born witch by the sounds of it! Hermione, you've been invited to come learn magic at the finest wizarding school in the country! Well, technically the only wizarding school in the country, but you get the idea!" Hermione's eyes lit up. "And, luckily for you, Harry is starting this year as well! Perhaps you can all come shopping for school supplies with us at Diagon Alley!"
"So you and Harry can do magic as well?" Hermione asked, and Karina nodded.
"Technically, Harry can't. He's not of age yet, but accidental magic won't get you in trouble. As for me, I'm not really allowed to perform magic in front of Muggles, but," she grinned, and picked up an empty tea cup from the end table. "Since you'll be going to school anyway and you lot are allowed to know... Aguamenti!" And the little cup was filled with water instantly.
Hermione jumped up and down, squealing with excitement, then looked to her mother and father. "Mum! Dad! Please, may I go? Please? I'd love to learn magic!" The two parents exchanged looks, smiled, then looked back at their daughter.
"Of course you can." Mr. Granger told her. "Its not everyday your little girl gets to learn magic!" To Karina, he said, "How do we get to Diagon Alley?"
