"Nat, I'm assuming once you open that flashdrive it'll alert whoever's on the other side, we'll have about five minutes or less, until SHIELD locks onto this location, and charges in," I stated, and leaned against the counter of the large Apple store we were in.
I adjusted the ridiculous glasses perched on my nose and clenched my toes against the front of the new Nike's I had on, instead of my comfortable combat boots.
Natasha thought it was a good idea for Steve and I to acquire some new clothes, and some glasses, not only to fit into the everyday crowd, but because I made her privy to the fact people were watching my apartment, and probably saw me leave with the clothes I had on.
I rolled my eyes when she handed Steve and I some black rimmed glasses once we started to leave one of the new stores in the two story mall, along with a veterans hat for Steve.
I would of laughed at the way we looked, like a couple of college kids, but my stomach soured the longer we were out in the open, and my hands began to burn once we walked towards the apple store.
"And just FYI, if we have to run, these shoes are gonna fly off, along with these stupid ass glasses," I cursed, and pushed them farther up the bridge of my nose.
She snorted as she grabbed a Mac Book, while I looked around, admitting she was right about the mall. It was busy, and huge, but Steve and I converged around her, hiding her from view.
She slipped the flashdrive in, and began opening file after file.
"I think you both look cute, like sexy librarians, but keep an eye out, will ya," she grinned as she began undoing the encryptions, "and why aren't you doing this? You were encoding and decoding before you decided to become a pilot?"
"You never really told me what you actually did in the marines?" Steve remarked, looking over Nat's shoulder, "besides become one of the best pilots Colonel Rhodes had seen, and the accident."
"That's it, I didn't want to get into tech, and once Rhodey put me in a simulator just to shut me up, well, I became a pilot, now hurry up," I demanded, seeing a burly salesman heading our way. I shook out my tense shoulders and let a fake smile spread over my face, and reached out for Steve's hand.
"Shit, I can't break the encryption, but I can triangulate wherever this information came from. It may lead us to where we need to go next," Red added quickly.
"Are you telling me someone out there's smarter than we are?" I questioned, while I blocked what she was doing from the approaching salesman, "we need to go, now."
"Hi, can I help you guys with anything?" The tall, husky, beared man asked. He winked at me and leaned an elbow close to Steve and I.
"No, I think we found what we were looking for," I replied sweetly, hearing clicks on the keyboard, "thank you though.."
"Oh yah, what were you guys looking for?" He asked, and leaned closer.
"A place to get married, aren't we honey?" Nat squealed, jumping up and grabbing onto a shocked and uncomfortable Steve.
"Uh, yah, we're, uh, we're getting married," Steve replied hesitantly, and clenched my hand in his.
I bit my lip and turned away to keep myself from bursting out with laughter, but his expression was priceless. My poor Captain Rogers was obviously a horrible liar, I wasn't a great one either, but the small piece of levity was hilarious.
"Oh wow that's awesome, where'd you guys decide to get hitched?" The salesman asked, glancing at my hand still connected to Steve, before looking over Nat's shoulder and peering at the Mac screen, "oh... uh.. New Jersey is.. uh, can be nice this time of year... I hear."
"Your father would be spinning in his grave if you got married in New Jersey," I griped, covering up my snicker with a cough, "I dont know about this new fiance babe, why can't you just marry me.." I scoffed, and bit my lip as Nat snorted again.
"Wow, must be nice to have two beautiful women wanting to marry you?" The salesman chuckled, while Steve blushed and stuttered, "but look at you man, I bet you have to beat people off with sticks."
I burst out laughing, but Nat kicked me forward into the salesman, "oh excuse me doll," I mumbled sweetly.
"Thank you so much, let's go guys, time to go find a dress!" Nat exclaimed, leading us all forward, and into the mall, "well, at least you have options Cap."
"I don't think I've ever seen you that shade of red before," I laughed, and followed Red's lead.
"Probably because I'm embarrassed beyond reproach," Cap muttered pointedly, but a small smirk spread over his lips.
We barely made it out of the store before we saw the special ops team walking around the second floor, heading towards the Apple Store.
