THANKSGIVING

"Is that (y/n) yelling?" Steve asked, as he and Nat piled their dirty dishes into the dishwasher, while the rest of the team sat in the living room.

Today was one of the first days he, along with the rest of the team, actually relaxed a bit, although he did gasp at the sheer amount of food delivered this afternoon. It took him, Tasha, and Wanda nearly an hour and a half just to set up everything, but he was grateful Tony had provided Thanksgiving dinner for all of them.
It'd been a while since he celebrated any holiday, or even a birthday, and the conversation between all of them stayed light, full of laughter, and food. There wasn't talk of the council, or (y/n)'s ability, just of everyday things, like sports, and family, even Wanda joined in once she shared a video from Clint and his family wishing them a happy Thanksgiving. Steve let the small conversations engulf him, while he sat back and watched all of them converse amongst themselves, strangely feeling content, and happy.
He was home.
He was also quite taken aback to hear Tony had provided Sam's VA building with food for the holiday, for those without the comfort of family or a home. (Y/n) actually offered to go help, but Sam assured her he had enough volunteers, and told her to enjoy the day, before he left.
Plus, seeing a smile on (y/n)'s face, and hearing her laughter was infectious, and soon spread throughout the facility. They both laughed after he mentioned Doogan to her, relaying how he'd never seen someone eat as much as Dum Dum. She was also openly affectionate today, especially with Tony, and it was nice to see them happy. Even Tony's grin didn't seem to leave his lips, while he watched her run around and make sure they had all they needed. Seeing her happy was like a breath of fresh air, and it strangely helped ease his own tension.

"Yah, her and Rhodes decided to watch the football game in the common room. I think her team's losing," Nat shrugged, but let a smile pepper her lips, "and I need to change into some sweats, I can't breath, I think I ate too much.."
"You probably did, I honestly don't think I've ever seen two women eat more than Dum Dum," he snickered, and let some memories of WWII roll over his content mind, "and it's been a while since I watched a football game, I'm partial to baseball, myself," he mentioned, and threw a washcloth into the sink.
He smiled as he remembered (y/n) sitting him down so they could watch a game, a few years ago. He was awed how much the game had changed, but laughed at how exuberant she expressed herself while she watched.
"Both are so boring, what's the big deal," Nat scoffed, only to giggle once she heard 'son of a bitch', echo off the walls, "and what's wrong with a woman stuffing her face?"
"Not a damn thing," Steve joked, and headed to the common room.
"Good answer Rogers," she chided, but followed him into the common room.

"This game's giving me tourettes, and I think I ate too much," I huffed, and plopped on the couch in between Rhodes and Tony. James and I seemed to be the only one's invested in the game, while Tony fiddled with his phone, or talked to Vision. Wanda just seemed perplexed, as Steve finally sat down, and tried to explain the game, while Nat started taking pictures of everyone.
"You've always had tourette's," Rhodes snickered, and leaned back against the couch, "more so when it comes to football, and you hoovered your food."
"I was hungry, but this is just sad. I haven't watched a game in awhile, and now I remember why," I growled, and flipped him off, but let a smile spread over my lips, and relaxed against Tony's arm, "we should go watch a game, get one of those VIP rooms, with all the food and alcohol.."
"Man, it's been a long time since I went and watched any game," Rhodes replied, "I think the last one I went too was with Tony, to watch the Lakers play."
"I think I still have season passes," Tony chimed in, "but I can get a VIP box for football, no problem, it's not as exciting as basketball, but.."
"Really?" I chattered excitedly, "that would be so much fun, I don't care what sport it is!"
"What would be?" Steve asked, and finally joined our conversation.
"Going to a football game," Tony replied before I could.
"Is it almost over?" Nat chided, and rolled her eyes.
"Actually we can change it now, the Dolphins ain't coming back from this, and I don't want to see it get worse," I muttered, "we can watch some holiday movies, I had FRIDAY line some up already."
"Great, I can just imagine what you have in store," Red postured, but gave me a wink, "Lord of the Rings? You're damned actions movies?"
"You know me so well, but there're like twenty-four movies I picked out, I'm sure you guys can find at least one," I scoffed, and grabbed the blanket from behind Tony and I.
My happiness seemed to permeate everything around me, and I was going to enjoy the downtime for as long as possible.
