After our long, lazy shower, I slipped into some of Tony's clothes, and we both had a quick dinner, while camping out on the couch, and he worked next to me.
The heat from the roaring fire made my eyes droopy, and my body heavy, but I watched Tony answer emails, and work on a few blueprints on a screen projected from his phone.
The emotional bombardment from the day wore me out, and my cheek stung, but I clung to everything he said, holding onto it much like child would a blanket.
I was still coming to terms with what happened between Nico and I, but overall I wasn't surprised. While Nico was someone I used to care for, the day I left, I saw something else inside him, I hadn't seen before. An anger, so unlike the teenager I knew, that I started to believe it didn't happen, until time took its course, but his actions these last couple of days spoke of a man I didn't know. There were no excuses, or apologies to be heard, but the pain in my cheek reinforced my need to finally let go.
My own rage was gone, but I was still left with a small inkling of sadness. I was doing the right thing when it came to giving Jesse the property, but I was finally going be closing this chapter, and leaving it behind, and while I gave myself some false hope that'd I'd see Tio Jesse again, I knew I wouldn't be coming back here, ever.
I would take my grandmother's memories, but leave everything else behind, and I was at peace with that.
"Someone from my legal department is making all the necessary arrangements, and tomorrow morning the bank, your uncle does his dealing with, is sending someone so you both can sign off on the deed," Tony announced, and woke me up from my reverie, "I can also have people come in here and box up everything and ship it to New York."
"Okay, but I only need the stuff in my room, my grandmother's, and the stuff hanging on the walls in here, everything else can stay," I yawned, and moved closer to Tony.
"Are you sure, what if she has priceless antiques in the attic, or slabs of gold buried in the backyard?" He asked, and touched my tingling cheek.
I forced my eyes open, and gave him a sad smile, "then I'm sure Jesse would find a way to get a hold of me, and let me know," I chided, and layed back down, "all her journals, the old photo albums, and the stuff she gave a damn about, are all in her room, and these walls, I don't want anything else."
"Alright, then we should be on the plane no later than eleven, and back in New York by eight," he added, and sat back.
"Fine by me, the sooner the better," I yawned again and closed my eyes, finally letting sleep envelope me.
Next Morning
"Oh, and I had someone come get you're truck earlier," Tony announced, as we walked out into the foggy morning, "it's already loaded up on the plane."
"Okay," I replied tiredly.
I spent most of my early morning signing documents, and gulping down gallons of coffee, while Tony barked into his phone. I was exhausted, and still reeling from last night, but ready to leave, so I did what I had too, and finally shuffled outside and stood on the porch.
The fog hung low on the ground, giving off an eerie vibe, and many of the workers were standing by the fence, along with Jesse, but I nodded at all of them. Nico's police cruiser was parked in the drive, and I scoffed at his audacity, but he didn't get out of the car. Tony stopped when he noticed Nicolas, but I put a hand on his arm, and gave him a sad smile.
"Its fine, I just want to get this over with, and go home," I urged, and quickly headed for the harried lawyer, Tony had called in to make arrangements for everything.
"It's not fine, the mark on your face reiterates how not fine this whole thing is," Tony growled at the bottom of the steps.
My eyes burned with embarrassment, because, as of this morning, the handprint was still visible across my cheek, and stood out against my paler skin.
"Tony," I sighed, but he was already focused on the men slowly make their way forward.
"You're a hell of alot nicer than I am," he added and started his car, but kept his body firmly placed between me and Jesse.
"Ms. (Y/l/n), I have everything already in line, and ready to be processed. I just need this last document signed," Tony's lawyer's started.
"Mija....?" Jesse interrupted, and stepped towards me, while Tony stiffened, and nearly stopped him, but I took a step closer to my uncle.
I didn't stop him when he put a careful hand over the handprint on my cheek, but my eyes watered once a lone tear fell from his left eye.
"Mr. Stark, can you give me a minute alone with my goddaughter?" Jesse croaked, and closed his eyes.
"Uh, how about no. After last night I don't think so," Tony scoffed, but stopped once I grabbed his hand.
"It's fine bebe. I'll just be a minute," I contended, and quickly followed Jesse to the barn, before Tony could stop us. The horses were eating, but when I walked in, most of them, even Thor, peaked his head over his stall and tried to grab my attention.
