Tower
"Uh, boss, I know Happy called and let you know the girls were doing fine, but Ms. Romanoff would like to let you all know they're on their way home from their early dinner with Ms. Potts, and, well, (y/n) has ingested a few more drinks than she should have," JARVIS announced, halting their work on the machine Tony and Bruce built to find the tesseract, "she would like some help, getting her upstairs, she is quite the handful when she's inebriated."
"Lovely, this day just keeps getting better," Tony growled, throwing his tools down and rushing down stairs, to the garage. He had been skirting with the idea of showing up to the restaurant, but he couldn't stomach seeing both women he had managed to hurt.
Although knowing that (y/n) was drunk, he had half a mind to call Pepper and ask her what the hell she was thinking, but instead he focused on getting downstairs.
"Should I wake up Cap?" Bruce asked, keeping a steady pace next to him.
"No, I can handle it, Steve doesn't need to be there everytime (y/n) needs something," he snapped, before thinking.
Bruce snorted when they came to a skidding stop near the growing number of vehicles parked along the concrete, seeing her truck pull up and park.
Tony was exhausted, but to worried to sleep when he found out she had left to speak with Pepper. He imagined all the things Pep could be saying, or what (y/n) was saying, all of them negative in his mind.
All that exhaustion and worry disappeared, though, once he saw (y/n) open her door and try to take a step forward, only to slide down the seat and land on the ground.
Her face was flushed, but she was beginning to look exactly the same as the day she walked into Stark Industries, besides her hair being longer than it's ever been, and splayed everywhere. Her light amber eyes sparkled, when she looked at him, and a large smile spread over her face. He couldn't help but grin when he noticed she was wearing one of his sweaters, her usual black jeans, and boots, but he was surprised she was up walking around already.
"She's still on pain meds, she shouldn't of been drinking in the first place," Bruce sighed, but followed Tony's rushing figure outside, "I swear Natasha is as crazy as they say."
"I told ya I could open my own door, bitch!" (Y/n) yelled, snorting against the truck door, "I don't think I shoulda drank those Jaegerbombs, and I don't like how long Hap's hairs, hair, hairs have gotten.."
A snort flew out of Tony's mouth, "c'mon baby girl, let's get you inside," he smiled, kneeling down in front of her.
"Tony?" She whispered, reaching up and touching his face. Her hand was warm, and her touch lit his skin on fire, surprising him, "wow, you're hotter than I remembered... have you always been this hot? Pff, see this is all your fault, you and your stupid hot face, and stupid charm, and stupid hot ass...you are Tony right?"
"Pfff, you know it babe, now let's get you up, and inside before Steve decides to lecture all of us," he cantered, lifting her off the floor and into his arms.
"Steve, schmeve!" She huffed, "ugh, it has to be you cause my tummy's doing the whole fluttering thing, I hate you..no, that's a lie, I should, but I don't, I'm mad as hell though..why didn't you tell me? We could of..ugh, you drive me insane..."
Tony was shocked still for a moment, listening to her babble incoherently, but also soaking up her smell, and the way she fit into his arms.
She nuzzled against his chest, and goosebumps spread over his body, reminding him just how important she was, how much he was willing to sacrifice for her.
"Uh, don't know how to answer all that, but you scared me baby girl," he mused.
He heard her sigh, and felt her stomach convulse.
"Tony I don't feel so good," she managed to get out before vomit spewed out of her mouth and onto his clean t-shirt. The smell of alcohol, and undigested food nearly had him heaving, but his worry for her was too much.
"Get her to the med-wing, I'll put her on an IV, and make sure she doesn't have alcohol poisoning, it's probably just a reaction between the alcohol and medication," Bruce stated, heading back inside.
"Dammit Tasha, how much did she have to drink? Why'd you let her drink this much?!" Tony growled, slowly carrying (y/n) still heaving body back into the medlab.
"She's a grown woman, and she didn't even drink that much, and she hasn't taken her pain meds since she woke up, and for your info, Happy has Pepper, and got her safely home," Nat replied, rolling her eyes, "and since you're so curious, her and Pep ended their conversation on a good note, so unclench. Now where's Steve?"
"In his room, probably sleeping, why? You gonna finally tell him that kiss meant more than it did?" Tony snickered, lifting (y/n) closer to him, "you and Steve make more sense than you and Banner."
"You're such an asshole," Nat giggled, heading towards Steve's room, but not before Tony thought he saw her smile slip for just a second before she disappeared.
"Pff, I ship them too, but she yells at me when I bring it up," (Y/n) snickered, while still heaving, "I think they're both fucken nutz."
He rolled his watering eyes and jogged forward, "you've been up for a few weeks or so and you're already driving me insane."
"Story of my life," she slurred, relaxing when he layed her down on the hospital bed, but she kept a hold of his hand, while she looked around, "don't... don't leave me here Tony, please."
The fear and change in her voice completley stopped him in his tracks when he went to turn around and grabbed a clean shirt from Dr. Cho.
"I'm not leaving babe, never again, alright? I promise," he reiterated, glad Cho had left the room, leaving only Bruce.
"You're lying, you've said that before, I've heard all this from you before Tony, and you always end up leaving me, always. I can't trust you to stay with me...trust you not to take what I have left. You can't just decide to come back into my life, and for me to let you, just because I love you doesn't mean you..it doesn't mean we should do this. I don't know what to do," she babbled, before her eyes rolled to the back of her head and she went limp, leaving all of them in a surprised silence.
"Damn, even drunk off her ass, she still has the presence of mind to call you out on your shit," Clint admitted, strolling into the room, "go change and shower, I'll keep and eye on her, better than Nat did, anyways."
"That's (y/n), always keeping it real," Rhodey sighed, walking into the room, passed Tony.
"I don't remember my mom giving dad this much trouble," Tony muttered, trying to keep the levity in his voice, but failing when he looked down at her. Her words stung him with their honesty, because she was right, even drunk, she was right, but that was going to change.
"That's because your mom was a saint, and (y/n) has always walked the line between saint, crazy, and shadow," Rhodes uttered, using the same words (y/n) and her grandmother used to describe herself, "are you sure you know what you're doing? After what you put her through, on top of what she thinks about herself, it's not gonna be easy. Plus she's right, you can't just expect to walk away from Pep, and into her life. It doesn't work like that."
"We've had this conversation, so yes, I know, and a part of me is still trying to catch up and figure out what the hell I'm doing, but I'm sure you're right about it not being easy, I would expect nothing less from her," Tony sighed, running his fingers through his hair, "I just hope she listens to what I have to say."
"Pff, and I hope you listen to her when she chews your ass," Clint cautioned, "now go shower, the smell of thrown up alcohol is gonna make me puke."
Tony flipped him off but headed towards the elevator, giving her one last look before the doors closed. He hoped she didn't push him away, before he could tell her everything.
Plus she wasn't the only one struggling to figure out what to do, or what they were doing.
In the past few months he barely recognized himself, or his actions.
For someone who had a hard time admitting or talking about what he felt, or his emotions in general, that seemed to be all he was doing once he pulled her out of the water. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing just different, and he was busy coming to terms with that, as well as, what they were going to face next.
Lab
"That was harsh, even for her," Rhodes stated, after watching Tony get into his elevator.
"Yah, but she ain't wrong," Clint added, "working with Tony for that small time during New York, and from what I saw when she left him right after she joined SHIELD, I know he's always been there with her, but she's right. He can't expect to just waltz in and assume she'll accept he made a mistake, but then again, we're men, and we don't know shit when it comes to women."
"Pff, no truer words have been spoken," Rhodey smiled, and brushed a piece of hair off (y/n) forehead, "then again this is Tony, not exactly a conventional male, but I have faith that if anyone can make Tony realize he's a goddamn moron, it's her. She's had lots of practice, I just hope this doesn't turn south."
"You and me both," Clint yawned.
"Don't you guys have work to do? I've never known one woman who could cause so many of you guys to start acting like alpha males around here, go do something, and let her sleep in peace," Bruce growled, shaking his head, "go."
