"(Y/n), you have some left over pain medication from your last hospital stay, in the medicine cabinet. I recommend you take some, it will help with the pain," FRIDAY urged, after the cold shower in my bathroom, "the wounds on your face and hands are superficial, and shouldn't need suturing, but the material is out in the lab, should you feel the need to."
"Thank you Friday," I whispered, as I carefully got dressed in some yoga pants and a sweater. The dark clouds, I noticed on the way back to the tower, finally let loose, and rain pelted the window. The weather matched my mood, and while, on the way back, I realized I didn't really have a reason to feel so discontent, but I was.
Maybe it was the all to familiar feeling of trouble sitting in my stomach, or maybe the way Tony didn't answer me when I asked what was really going on? He may not have openly admitted to anything, but the range of emotions on his face reiterated that something else was going on.
Hell, I noticed it at our hearing, the tone of familiarity that seemed to pass between Tony and Secretary Ross, which had me wondering back then, but so much had happened just in the past week, that it pushed my questions to the side.
Well, they were back now, and roaring to be answered.
I was like Steve when it came to secrets, and we learned, during Ultron, that most of the team still had a few of them, but Clint's secrets didn't effect the team like Tony and Bruce's did.
In a state of exhaustion, I began to wonder if we really knew or trusted each other at all. Of course I was thinking crazy, but the questions brought fear, and fear always opened up the pitch black hole in my stomach. I already had enough shit to worry about, and hadn't even started my own look into the questions I had, but with the council, they took precedence.
"Should I have the chef make lunch?" FRIDAY inquired, while I climbed into my own bed.
"I'm not hungry, but if Tony's here, or will be, then yes have him make lunch or dinner," I sighed, and wiped the burn from my eyes, "I just wanna sleep, and not think about anything for a little while...."

By the time Tony arrived home, the hard rain had started turning into slush, and the city was preparing for the evening. He'd spent more time at the facility than he wanted to, but he needed to get everything situated before he took Rhodes advice about a small vacation.
Two magazines were picked for their interviews, the holiday parties were already planned, and his party planner was taking care of those. Then the Intel the foundation wanted, about the two designated areas listed for help, were left in the hands of Romanoff and Rhodes. They'd make the recommendations, and wait for him and (y/n) to come back before deciding on anything. He was also mentally preparing for the questions the magazines were going to ask, especially about his relationship with Pepper and (y/n), but he wasn't worried about the outcome, not anymore. The one thing he was worried about was the aftermath when he finally told her what was really going on.

He slowly made his way to his floor, not really surprised to see she wasn't there.
He noticed how tired she looked this morning, but he assumed it was because of his nightmare, and the sex they had afterwards, which kept them up till four in the morning. Yet, after Rhodey pointed out about time off, he couldn't disagree that they both could use some real R and R. He hoped to get some of that at her ranch, but after Nico, and his panic attack, there wasn't much in the way of relaxing.
He had a tendency to forget she'd just got up almost three months ago, from a near death experience, then Ultron happened, and the aftermath took an emotional toll on her, along with their hearing and Oceano. She hadn't had time to breath, let alone time to do anything else besides dive back into work.
Plus Rhodey's revelations about (y/n) 'feelings' and his kidnapping, tugged at his heart. Even he was surprised she had come along to Afghanistan, but in his playboy stupor, he ignored her obvious worry, while she stood in the background like a wraith, assessing the situation.
In an inkling of a moment he could see himself telling her everything he hadn't made her privy too. Ross, and the conversations that could inevitably lead to oversight. The surprising errand he sent a shocked Rhodes on, which reiterated to him and James, that being with her for the rest of his life didn't scare him, like he thought it would.
He found something, love, where he didn't expect it to be, and it was right there in front of him, this whole time. Just in the last few weeks, she'd done more for him, than most had, and he wanted to hold onto that with both hands. There was no question, after waking up from only an hour of sleep, after his nightmare, and she was still there, clinging to him like a vine.
