"Oh shit.." Clint gasped, as warm arms went around my waist and held me up, but a creepy robotic voice sounded in front of us.
"I told you to get that fucken sceptor out of here," I gasped, but finally stood straight, and stepped in front of Tony and Steve.
"JARVIS?" Tony asked quickly, pulling out his small pad, and leaned against me.
"Why is it so dark, where am I?" The voice uttered, while one of Tony's legion robots lumbered into the room. It was in pieces and leaked oil all over the floor, bringing the smell of burnt metal into my nose.
"Worthy.." It uttered, and focused on us.
"What the fuck is that?" I whispered, as adrenaline pumped through my blood, lighting my body up like a flare, "why does it sound like that? What's happening?"
"Stark?" Steve contended, and pulled my body behind his, as Tony took a step forward.
"How could any of you be worthy?" The robot asked, "you're all murderers fighting under a false flag of righteousness and security."
"Oh gods," I whispered, standing up, and bracing myself. I looked back at Natasha and Maria, and nodded my head, hoping they had the sense of having their weapons on them, "what is that?" I asked again.
"You'll soon find out, but I...I was asleep, or it was a dream...I was tangled in... all these strings.." the robot stated, as if surprised it was standing in front of us.
"JARVIS?" Tony asked again. I glanced at the small tablet he was holding, noticing JARVIS was offline.
"I had to kill the other guy...he was nice..." It continued, and twirled around unsteadily, "and I feel kinda bad.."
"You killed someone?" Steve asked, and put his hand back against my heaving stomach, but I was already moving inches to the left.
"Not my first choice, but here in the real world, we're faced with ugly choices, aren't we?" It added, "you guys are a prime example of exercising that choice."
"We need to get Cho outta here," I whispered, and looked back at Clint, who was slowly moving towards the bar.
"I don't understand what's going on?" Dr. Cho recited shakily, and moved closer to Thor.
"Enough of this, who sent you?" Thor demanded.
"I'll give you two guesses, but you'll only need one," it replied, just as Tony's voice played through a speaker.
"I see a suit of armor around the world," Tony stated, "imagine it, peace in our time."
"Ultron?" Bruce gasped.
"In the flesh," the robot teetered, "good job Doctor Banner."
"You did this?" I asked, shocked, and followed everyone's gaze at Tony, "oh, please tell me you didn't do this Tony?"
"Well not yet, I'm more of a rough sketch, but I think I'm ready for my mission," it mustered, and turned around in a circle. It was as if it was still having a hard time moving around, and acclimating itself to being alive or functioning.
My heart pounded in my chest, and my body shook with anger, giving me strength, "and what is your mission?" I asked, straightening my shoulders, and moved closer to Tony, as warmth fluttered through my blood, "move, now!"
"Peace in our time babygirl," it snickered, driving my breath from my chest.
The wall behind it exploded and Tony's legionnaire bots raced towards us and fired. I dove to the side, closely followed by Tony and James.
I kipped up, grabbed a stool, and jumped into the air. The wooden stool shattered as it connected with the nearest bot, but it blasted one of it's repulsar's and knocked Rhodes through one of the glass windows leading downstairs.
"Rhodey!?" I yelled, and ran, using the bar to push myself up into the air, and grabbed the nearest bot before it shot at anyone else. I squeezed as hard as I could, and tried to reach for the power battery in it's chest, but it threw me through the wooden shelves near the bar.
"(Y/n)?" Clint gasped, and pulled my body towards the other side of the stairs. My dress was torn down the back, and blood was leaking between my shoulder blades.
"We need weapons," I managed to get out, before the twang of Thor's hammer echoed through the room.
"Nat and Maria have their guns, and we have this," he replied, lifting up Cap's shield.
I grabbed it and bolted forward. I heard Clint hollering and Maria's gun going off, but I slammed the shield down on top of one of the bots, and yanked it's head back.
"Thor!" I yelled, struggling to hold onto the robot.
He threw his hammer and the metal head came clean off. I dropped it to the ground and leaped onto the couch and jumped into the air. I twisted and tossed the shield as hard as I could hoping to hit the bot firing on Nat and Banner as they climbed the stairs.
It hit it's mark and the robot broke in half. I used my momentum and somersaulted behind the over turned coffee table. I yelled out when one of the last robots flew through the busted glass, into Tony's lab.
"The sceptor!" I screamed, and lunged forward.
"Help me!" A familiar female voice shrieked from behind me.
Dr. Cho was huddled down behind the grand piano as half a bot raised it's hand to fire. I grabbed a bottle and threw it as hard as I could, hoping to get it's attention. It shattered over its head, and focused on me.
"Run!" I yelled, and slowly backed up, "guys now would be a good time..." I uttered, feeling the whoosh as Thor's hammer struck the bot and obliterated it. Steve tossed his shield and destroyed the last one, leaving the menacing, broken robot still standing in front of us.
I knelt down on the floor, eyeing the drops of blood gathering under my bare feet, but my hands and legs burned."So dramatic," the bot that called himself Ultron muttered, and turned away, "I know you all think you're doing the world a favor, but you really didn't think this one through. If you really want to protect the world, it has to change..." It continued aimlessly.
I slowly stood up, and searched for Rhodes and Tony. Both were unharmed, but Tony, Tony looked shocked and scared.
"Change how?" I asked, taking a painful step forward. Glass littered the floor, making it harder to walk, but the adrenaline kept the plain away. The fuzziness from the alcohol was gone, replaced by rage and fear.
The Avengers were supposed to be different than SHIELD, yet here we were, with a murderous robot, Tony created without any of our knowledge.
We were headed for disaster, no, it was already here, and I was unprepared, but called to whatever I had, hoping it would protect my friends.
"How can you save humanity, if it's not allowed it evolve?" The robot uttered, and tilted his head at me, as I stalled closer, "there's only one path to peace, the Avengers extinction."
"Well here we are," I snarled, and shook out my shaky arms, "if that's your mission, let's do this.."
Ultron laughed, or tried too and focused his red eyes on my face, "like I said, so dramatic, but you happen to be my favorite, the most loyal, and yet so dark, so maybe we can work something out babygirl.."
"Not gonna happen," Clint decreed, but I stopped, frozen in my place.
"Don't threaten me, why're you here, why do you need the scep..." I started, but Thor threw Mjölnir and the bot shattered into pieces.
"Goddammit, I wasn't done yet!" I barked, and gingerly stepped closer to the fallen robot, now in pieces all over the floor.
Goosebumps spread over my skin as the broken bot began to sing a song from Pinocchio.
"I had strings, but now I'm free...there are no strings on...me..." Ultron murmured, as vomit began to rise in my throat.
"That's the creepiest thing I've ever heard in my entire life," Maria blurted out, "and good job Stark.."
"What have you done Tony?" I gasped, and kneeled back down on the floor, "what the hell's happening!?!"
"(Y/n)?" Tasha cautioned, and put a hand on my shoulder.
"No, did you hear it, I'm fucken done with all these goddamned riddles," I barked, and wiped my face, as the robots words blanketed my skin. Loyal and dark, but what the fuck did that have to do with anything, "I..this isn't over, it's not dead, and I warned you, all of you, now it's too late."
