Almost Eight Hours Later
"Have you slept yet?" Tony asked while I stumbled into the lab.
"How much longer is this gonna take?" I asked, taking a much needed break from listening and watching for signs of Natasha, and Cap, "and no..I'll sleep when we find Red and Ultron.."
"We just have to maintain the upload, and matrix, which needs to be done within the next three minutes or this isn't going to work," Bruce answered, and fiddled with the cradle.
Both Bruce and Tony had been working nonstop since we brought the cradle home, and I kept what they were doing from Clint, but he was focused on finding Natasha while I fidgeted for the last eight hours.
"Is J's mainframe even compatible with that thing in there?" I asked, and walked down towards the cradle.
"I'm working on it," Tony retorted, as I grew more and more curious to see what was going to happen.
After sitting at the radar desk with Clint, I realized after the initial anger faded, hope blossomed in my chest once I continued to look up and see the determination on Tony's and Bruce's face. Their belief in what they were doing overran the stench of fear and shadows lingering over the tower. There was just a light and the choice we made to run with it, but the quick change in my emotions startled me, because no matter what lay in the cradle, I didn't feel as scared as I should of been.
Maybe I was starting to crack from all the strain, or finally believed this was what we needed in order to beat Ultron. Even the whispers, and trepidation in chest weren't as loud, but whatever it was, we needed to hurry so we could focus on the real problem at hand, which was Ultron.
"Well hurry up, because if Cap gets here before this is done, we're in for it.." I started, only to be interrupted.
"I am here, and I'm going to say this once," Steve announced, while the twins stood at his back, "whatever you're doing, shut it down, now."
My legs twitched, and my hands clenched in anger as images of Steve and Natasha stumbling around after our last trial, flashed in front of me.
"Yah, how about nonce," Tony muttered, and kept working, "and no.."
I took a guarded step forward and planted myself in front of the cradle, right in the middle of Tony and Steve, because a fight was coming.
It'd been coming, since Ultron made an appearance, and it was gonna happen within the next few seconds.
"We need to talk about this, so everyone unclench," I ordered, and put my hand up, "I mean it, I'm already in a bad fucken mood Steve, and you forced me to leave Natasha behind, so don't bring it here..."
Tony snickered behind me, but I didn't move, recognizing the anger in Steve's face, and his bunched muscles.
"Tasha, I'm sure, understands, but I'm telling the three of you to shut it down, now," Steve demanded, and looked at me.
"No, not gonna happen," Tony quipped and continued working, "we can't anyways.."
"You don't know what you're doing," Steve warned, while his shield twitched in his hands.
"Oh and you do?" Bruce spoke up, "you bring them here, when they're responsible for...she didn't get inside your head?" His eyes flashed green then back to brown.
"Bruce..." I warned, and stepped in front of him as Wanda lumbered forward, "that's enough.."
"I know you're angry, but," Wanda reasoned.
"Oh I'm way past angry, I could snap your neck and not change a shade," he growled, surprising all of us.
"Why doesn't anyone listen to me?" I snarled, "I said that's enough, all of you, and Maximoff, you need to back off," I barked, as Pietro placed himself in front of Wanda, "your powers don't work on me, so keep that in mind, but we found JARVIS, he was the one on the inside helping us, changing nuclear codes from inside the web," I stated quickly, as prickles of unease roared across my skin, "so listen before the shooting starts."
"You, you of all people should know better," Steve rebuked at me, and shook his head, "after everything that's happened (y/n)? This is not the side you should be on."
"Really? The only side I'm on, are for those people who lost their lives, while the red witch behind you, poisoned our minds. JARVIS could end all of this, trust me Steve," I demanded, and shook out my injured shoulder.
"You sound like Stark," Pietro muttered, but quickly disappeared, before I could say anything.
Electrical sparks showered around us, and the lights flickered on and off, before Pietro let go of the main power source plug and smiled.
"There, see how easy that was, now you can keep talking," the kid smirked, as my muscles bunched.
The retort of a gun went off, and Pietro fell through the plate of glass he was standing on. In seconds chaos erupted around me, and I reacted instantly. I slid under Steve's shield as it destroyed Tony's computers, barely missing a blast from Tony's hands.
I yelled once Steve crashed into a handful of desks, but ran forward and kicked him square in the chest, hopefully keeping him down for a few more seconds. My arm and shoulder screamed, but I flipped back towards Tony and grabbed his alloy covered hand and pointed it at my chest.
"Are you going to shoot me to Tony?" I gasped, while Bruce yelled out from behind me.
"Move (y/n)," Tony demanded. I didn't doubt he could move me himself, but he didn't budge.
"No, this stops now, we're not fighting each other, not with Ultron still out there," I muttered, and turned my body, as more glass crashed, and a loud thump sounded behind me.
"Get back!" Thor yelled, but none of us moved, too shocked by his sudden arrival.
"Thor!" I shrieked, as he lifted his hammer and called down his lightning. Tony pushed my head down and covered my head with his hands.
"No!" Bruce shouted.
There was nothing any of us could do, but watch, as Thor brought down his power, on whatever was in the cradle, destroying it.
More computers exploded, and light bulbs erupted and flickered on and off. We all held a collective breath once the cradle began to beep, with the intense overload of power.
"Move! Go!" I yelled, and clutched at Tony, but he held me still.
"Oh god," Steve gasped, just as the cradle burst open and sent Thor flying.
The deep red being, who was laying lifeless, floated out and landed crouched down at the edge of the cradle.
"Dont move," Tony whispered, and held my arms, but no one moved, not even Wanda or Thor.
My chest ached, and I stumbled back against Tony, as a small whine slipped over my lips. A flash of red and black dotted my vision, but Tony held me up, and kept me pressed tightly against him.
The being looked around and took in his surroundings, setting his gaze on Tony and I bit longer than the rest, but strangely I wasn't scared, not really. All I was feeling was the same intense gathering in my chest, and the burning in my extremities.
"J?" I called out, but the being turned away and focused on Thor.
In a split second he threw himself at Thor, but I'd already leapt forward, as Thor blocked the outburst and sent the new being flying through a plate of glass towards the common room windows.
I jumped down onto the common room floor and snatched the gun Clint tossed at me, while we slowly approached the being, only to halt as Thor put his hand up.
The creature gazed at himself in the glass, as millions of lights sparkling from the city, danced over his red and gold skin. He looked at his hands and face as if he was surprised to be alive, but we were all standing still, shocked to see this thing becoming aware.
I glanced back at Tony noting the questions and wariness in his eyes, but he was silent, as was Bruce.
I slipped the gun into the back of my jeans and watched as the being slowly floated in front of Thor.
My heart hammered in my chest, and I began to pace with unspent adrenaline, as a heavy wave of blackness slammed into my brain.
