I faked a yawn, resting my outstretched arm around Gabrielle's shoulders, she smiled, leaning over the armrest between us to rest her head on my shoulder. Adrian fidgeted in his seat beside me, hogging the armrest and sprawling out on his seat, accidentally kicking the person beside him, who shot me death glares as though it was my fault. The film we was watching was definitely aimed at young children. Gabrielle and I were the oldest people there, minus the adults parenting their irritating children.

Luckily, we were sat in the very back row, no one noticed how one innocent kiss escalated into a full blow make-out session. The armrest was digging into my stomach but I could barely notice it. Suddenly, a small person clambered onto my lap and shoved me and Gabrielle apart.

"Watch the film" Adrian huffed

"Adrian, go back to your seat" I whispered

"No because you two will start kissing again"

Boy, that kid was stubborn. Nothing we said would convince him to shift off my lap. Sighing, I accepted defeat and loosely wrapped my arms around his middle. He laid back against me, his head fitting perfectly underneath my chin.I laced my fingers through Gabrielle's, kissing her knuckle. Ah, finally! The film was over! I could have jumped for joy.

"Adrian, you can get off me now" I murmured, he didn't reply.

"Baby" Gabrielle laughed "He's asleep" I rolled my eyes and picked him up, being careful not to wake him. He was surprisingly light, way too light.

"Gabs, can I ask you something?" I said once we left the cinema

"Sure" She smiled

"Does Adrian have an eating disorder or something? He's so light, way too light for a 7 year old" I frowned, adjusting him in my arms so he wouldn't slip.

"Jake, it's better not to talk about it" Gabrielle bit her lip

"Gabs, I want to know"

"Look, Jake, Adrian was in an accident when he was younger.... he's all scattered now"

"What do you mean?"

"He's not all there, Jake. He was only 3 when it happened but trust me, there's a difference. The only reason I moved out here was because he got bullied and if I tell my parents about what happens to him at school because we'll probably have to move again, I've heard Mum and Dad talking about moving to Minnesota because there's a really good school for Adrian"

"But he's been fine!" I argued

"He goes through phases, Jake" She sighed "He'll go a period of time being completely normal and then he'll snap, anything could set him off at any time"

"What happens then?"

"It's like he's not even there and if he does talk to you, it probably won't make any sense whatsoever. All he does is sit in his room and draws fucking circles on a piece of paper! He only uses one specific pencil and a compass to draw neat little circles until the paper is completely black. We have to let him do what he wants otherwise he'll throw a fit or do something stupid, one time he ran away from home.... he was missing for weeks, Jake" She hurriedly wiped her eyes "Its not fair! He's just a kid!" She burst into tears. I shifted Adrian into one arm and wrapped my free one around Gabrielle, kissing her forehead. She nuzzled into me, sobbing quietly.

"Lets get you two home"

Gabrielle was still sniffling into a tissue and Adrian was still sleeping peacefully on my shoulder when the front door loomed into view. Gabrielle mumbled something inaudible that sounded a lot like 'I forgot my key', so I knocked on the door and waited. Mr Katsopolis opened the door, worry flickered across his features. Gabrielle produced a watery smile, leaning into my side.
