Demons

Why do we call it demons,
When scientists have already made it clear that it's a chemical imbalance in our brains.

Why do we call them monsters,
When we know they aren't figures that creep around at night.

It's because we become somebody so dark and sometimes we don't even know who we are or what we're doing.

It's because we become so numb and our thoughts rush around in our minds trying to eat us from the inside out.

It's because of the unsteady pace of our hearts.

It's because when it's beating too slow we want it to move fast.

It's because only someone under the control of the devil could want somebody dead.

It's because there are things that go bump in the nights.

It's because we are those things.

It's because we scare ourselves.

So maybe we compare the way we feel to something so horrible and wrong is because this is horrible and wrong.

Maybe we're not doing this to ourselves and maybe we are.

But if these aren't really demons,

And our thoughts not really monsters.

Then what is it when my mind is still itself but my body does its own thing without out the help of my heart.

What is it when I'm moving on autopilot and still tell myself 'No!' , yet  my body still keeps going.

What is it that takes away control.

Who is it that pulls me in so deep and pushes me so far.

Because if it's not an instinct and it's definitely not art.

A movement sprung by passion,
A passion fueled by God.

If it's not a monster and it's not me,

Then who is it that's mutilating me.
