-Rose's POV-
"Rose," I heard. I looked up from where I was lying and looked around. I was in a space of darkness that stretched out everywhere. I looked all around, confused on how I even got here. As I slowly stood up, my head started to hurt. Whether it was from a headache or from my necklace, I wasn't sure. I felt my necklace pulsed and looked down to see it glowing a sickly color green. Every time it pulsed, my head started to hurt. I held my head; what now?
"Rose," I heard again. I scowled, recognizing the voice and standing up straight, lowering my hands to the side. The necklace pulsed again and my hands twitched in response to the pain, but I refused to hold my head again. "What do you want Toffee?" I asked.
"Why cut to the chase? Can't we just have a lovely chat?"
"I'm sick and tired of you trying to take control of my magic. It's not happening!"
I felt a presence behind me, but I couldn't turn my body around. I felt a pair of hands grab my shoulders, and I could see the scaly claws starting to dig into my shoulder. "Whoever said I wanted your magic?" Toffee said behind me.
"Uh, you did," I said, trying not to wince at the pain in my shoulders.
"Name when."
I opened my mouth to say, but then realized he was right. He never mentioned he ever wanted my magic. But he has the ability to make my magic go crazy and try to kill me, like the incident with the bike. Toffee chuckled and said, "Exactly. Never have I once said 'I want your magic.'"
"So why take control of it?" I asked, trying to put the puzzle pieces together. Toffee started to laugh and I flinched at the volume of it. "Wh-What's so funny?" I asked, nervously.
"Oh your so clueless. It's simply-" Suddenly, his claws tightened so quickly, they dug deeply into my shoulders. I gasped in pain and he whispered, "cute."
His grip only tightened slightly, but it was enough to get me to scream. I closed my eyes and screamed in pain. I instinctively threw my arms out and felt magic leave from my hands. I could hear Toffee laughing but another voice shouting my name, that was quickly growing louder. Just as Toffee's laugh was silenced, Marco's voice shouted, "ROSE! WAKE UP!"
My eyes snapped open and they met Marco's, who were full of worry and confusion. The pain I had been feeling in my dream with Toffee was in reality Marco gripping my shoulders too tightly. I looked at him, trying to catch my breath.
"M-Marco?" I barely said.
"Rose...are you okay?" he asked, letting go of my shoulder. I rubbed my shoulders, trying to ease the pain. I nodded and said, "What happened?"
"You fell asleep during math," Marco said, glancing nervously around the room. I quickly spun around to see that I had fallen asleep during class. I felt my face heat up in embarrassment as my classmates and sister looked at me, a mixture of confusion and worry. Had I been talking in my sleep? Did I release a spell in my sleep?
"And worse yet, you let the class pet out of it's cage," Marco whispered to me.
"I did?" I asked, turning back to him.
"Yes, you did," we both heard. We looked and saw Ms. Skullnick standing at the front of the classroom, looking furious. I glanced over at the hamster cage and saw that it had been destroyed, along with the window behind it. I felt a sick feeling drop in my gut; oh man, was I in trouble now. "I can explain," I started.
