He knew them being together wasn't a good idea. See, [name] was extremely in love with this girl. Kira. She was perfect in every way and she made him feel like he was on top of the world.
Unfortunately, she was also the ex girlfriend of his brother, Scott, who was still very much in love with her. He had been waiting, waiting for any sign that Scott had moved on and didn't love her anymore. That time still hadn't come and he was starting to give up hope that Scott would ever move on, even though Malia had clear feelings for him.
He sat in her room with his head in his hands, she was standing in front of him, wanting to move closer and touch him but he had already asked her to keep her distance, not wanting to make this harder for both of them. "I don't want to do this anymore. I want to be with you."
"I want to be with you to but... I don't know if we can make that happen. I talk to Scott all the time about you and you know how much it sucks to hear him talk about how in love with you he is and how he's trying to get back together with you?"
She looked down at the ground with a frown, "I don't love him anymore. I love you."
"I know." He replied softly. "And I love you to but nothing can happen between us, not while Scott still feels for you. He's my brother and he trusts me. I'm not going to lose or hurt him."
"Neither am I." She nodded her head, finally walking over and sitting next to him. "I'm going to talk to him about everything. I'm also going to tell him how I feel about you. I can't hide it from him anymore and he deserves to know."
"If you tell him how you feel than so will I... but we can only move forward in our relationship if he's okay with it. If he isn't than I'm going to have to do what he wants."
"Yeah, I understand. He's my friend and I want him to be okay with us as well. Who knows, maybe we'll be together within the next couple weeks." She said hopefully.
He turned to look at her, managing a small smile. "I can only hope." She moved to rest her head on his shoulder and wrapped her arms around him, hugging him tightly. "Why do you have to be so irresistible?"
She giggled into his shoulder, "well, why do you have to be so charming?"
"It comes naturally." He replied, looking down at her.

"You what?" Scott asked with wide eyes, mouth propping open. "Are you serious? First I get that she likes you and now I find out that you like her as well? C'mon, dude! You know how I feel about her." He snapped.
[name] looked at the ground ashamed. "I'm sorry. I couldn't help it. She's just so... perfect." He snapped his mouth shut when Scott glared at him. "I'm not going to do anything. We're just friends and it's going to stay that way."
"But why? What's the point? You know she wants you to." Scott scoffed, squeezing his eyes shut. "This freaking sucks."
"I'm not going to go after her because I know that would hurt you. Ever since you were born I swore I would protect you and never hurt you. She's your ex girlfriend who you still love. I'm not that guy."
He wasn't. He had always been there for Scott and was, what Scott would call him, the best big brother in the world. They hardly fought and Scott knew he could always count on him. "I guess I wasn't enough for her. What did I do wrong?"
"Are you kidding me Scott? You didn't do anything wrong. People just grow apart and feelings change all the time. It wasn't you. I've seen how you are with relationships and I would say you are a pretty good boyfriend. She's insane for wanting me." He mumbled the last part. "I'm the one that's not enough."
"How can you say that when you're the one that she wants?"
"Because I'm not. When it comes to us, it's clear to see who the better brother is. You're brave, selfless, loving. You do everything for everyone else. Me? I'm some asshole who people can't believe is related to you."
"You shouldn't put yourself down so much. You do it all the time." Scott said. "I can see why she fell for you. You're not a bad guy and at least now I know she'll be with someone who will take care of her."
"Wait... you're cool with us being together? I don't want you to think you have to be because I won't do it if you don't want me to."
"Of course I wish she wanted to be with me but I just want her to be happy. I want you to be happy to. So, if you being together makes you happy, than I'm okay with it. It's going to be difficult to get used but I'll be fine."
"Are you sure?"
Scott stayed quiet for a little bit before slowly nodding. "Yeah. I'm sure. Just don't hurt her or I'll have to kick your ass."
"I won't." He replied honestly, bringing his brother into a loving hug. "Thank you. You don't know how much this means to me."
"You owe me. Big time."
