Chapter 138: A Date, Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Word Count: 1101For so long she had been waiting for this time. Buffy had been flirting with [name] like her life depended on it and she was patiently waiting for him to ask her out. Her patience had run out. He was taking too long in asking her so she was going to do what any confident woman did. She was going to ask him out.
Though she was really nervous and it had taken some time to convince herself that she didn't have to wait for him and the guy didn't always have to ask the girl out.
She was in the library like usual, looking in the tiny mirror and inspecting her makeup, making sure it was all perfect for when he came in. Giles knew what she was doing and was nice enough to stay in his office and not come out and interrupt them.
He had never approved of her dating but he figured if she had to date someone, [name] was a good option. Since he knew everything about her and wouldn't keep her from her slaying duties.
"I'm here! I'm here! Sorry I'm late." [name] yelled out as he came running into the room, stopping when he reached her to put his hand on his chest, deep breaths leaving his lips. "Where is everybody?"
Oh, that's right. She had told him they were all meeting up in the library to talk about the new monster in town. Oh well. A little lie never hurt anybody. "They'll be here later."
"But I thought..." He looked down at his watch. "I'm actually early? I didn't need to run here?"
"Nope but exercise is good for you." She smiled at him brightly. A smile she hoped he liked.
He nodded his head and threw off his backpack, sitting down in one of the seats. "Right." He tapped his hands against his legs. "Exactly how early am I? Do you think I'll have time to run to the cafeteria? They're making those hot dogs I like."
She grimaced, her mouth turning up in disgust. "How can you like those? There disgusting and you don't even know what they put in them?"
"That's what's so cool about it. It could be anything." He smiled, looking down at his stomach. "And I'm starving. So I'm just going to-"
As he stood up and went to make his way out, she grabbed his hand and yanked him back with a bit more force than necessary.
He yelped out in pain and she immediately let him go, jumping up quickly and spewing out apologies. "Stupid slayer strength." She mumbled. "I really am sorry."
"It's okay, Buff. It's hot... sometimes." He laughed awkwardly and rubbed the back of his neck. "Did you need to ask me something or..?"
This was it. The moment she had been waiting for. "Um, did you hear about the band playing at the Bronze tonight? They, uh, sound pretty good and I was wondering if you wanted to go."
"I was already going. I go basically every other night anyway." He shrugged. "Is Xander and Willow coming as well?"
She looked crestfallen at his answer. "Right. Actually, I was hoping it could just be me and-" Before she could finish the doors to the library opened and Xander came strutting in. "Xander! What are you doing here?" She asked in anger.
"[name] told me we were all meeting up in the library." Xander looked at her confused.
Giles, thinking that she was done with [name], came walking out as well after hearing Xander. "I do have some things I need to discuss with you."
Buffy threw her arms up in frustration. "Unbelievable!" She stormed out of the room.
[name]'s eyes followed her out and he furrowed his eyebrows. "What's wrong with her?"
"I don't know." Xander shrugged.

That night Buffy and Willow were sitting together at the Bronze, sipping their drinks and waiting for the boys to show up. "It's like the universe doesn't want us together." She whined.
"No. That's just Xander." Willow said.
"I was like this close to asking him." She held up her fingers and pouted. "If Xander had been a couple seconds later me and [name] would be holding each other and dancing at the moment." She rested her chin on her hand.
"You always have another chance. Like right now." Willow pointed behind her and she turned around to see her crush walking into the Bronze with Xander laughing at his side. "I'll distract Xander. You concentrate on [name]." Willow stood up and as the boys came over, she grabbed Xander's hand and pulled him away.
"What are you doing?" Xander called but she ignored him.
[name] sat down at the table and tilted his head. "I wonder if Willow is finally going to tell him how she feels. Wish they would just get on with it already." He said, before turning to her. "Are you liking the music?"
"Yeah. It's great." She bumped her head up and down to prove her point, making him smile. "Did you want to get closer?"
"Oh, um, sure." He stood up again and followed her through the crowed until they were at the front. They had to hold onto each other so they didn't lose each other. He swayed to the music with a smile, not noticing Buffy getting even closer to him. He didn't notice until he felt her head rest on his chest and her arms wrap around him. "You okay there, Buff?"
"I am." She looked up at him with confidence. "I'm really glad I'm here with you. I-I really like you."
He hadn't been expecting that. "Wait, you like me? But... I'm a complete loser and you're... awesome and beautiful. Why do you like me?" He, Xander and Willow had always been the losers of the school.
"Because I do." She said simply before hitting him in the shoulder. "And don't just call yourself a loser, we're both losers."
Although he did not agree with that, he didn't argue. Instead he wasn't going to question how he was able to get a girl like Buffy Summers to like him. He was just going to be happy in the fact that he was a lucky man. "Hey Buff? I like you to."
"Good." She leaned up and kissed his cheek.
It was only the first date after all.
