"Hello again."

That voice. It was a voice Rin had tried to forget for so long. That voice he hated and had never wanted to hear again. He slowly turned his head, a scowl on his face and a deep anger in his eyes when he saw who it was. "What makes you think I want you to talk to me?" He growled out.

"I figured since we were on the same swim team, we could be friends. We're going to be spending a lot of time together now." [name] replied with an innocent smile.

Rin and [name] had used to date in high school. Rin was absolutely in love with him and thought they would be together forever. That was until [name] dumped him for one of Rin's friends, Haru. The day he had been dumped had been one of the worst days of his life. His heart had been ripped from his chest by someone he loved.

Rin hated him now or he tried to. The guy in front of him was someone who hurt him so bad, he didn't think he would ever move on. When they had graduated high school, Rin thought he would never see him again. He really didn't think they would end up at the same college. He must be in hell.

"Friends? You've got to be kidding me." Rin snapped, crossing his arms and his stance becoming defensive. "How's Haru?" He spoke the name with so much venom that the guys behind them took a step back, not wanting to be near an angry Rin.

"Oh. We broke up after graduation. Thought it would be better than doing long distance." [name] shrugged.

Just like that. Rin had his heart broken for a relationship that didn't even last that long? "I really meant nothing to you, didn't I?" His voice broke as he spoke.

"What are you talking about?" [name] furrowed his eyebrows before he sighed. "Are you still upset about us breaking up? That happened so long ago. I thought you would be over it by now."

Those words made a new rage fill Rin and he pushed [name] back a few steps. "How dare you! My best friend and boyfriend betrayed me and got together. Is that something I'm just supposed to get over? I regret ever being with you in the first place you dick! No wonder you and Haru didn't last. He probably realised he could do so much better!" He stormed past him and [name] kept his mouth shut, being frozen in his spot.

He didn't know his words would have hurt Rin that much. He thought Rin was over what happened. "I'm so dumb." He hit his head with his hands. He always spoke without thinking. No wonder he hardly had any friends.

He glanced behind him to see if Rin was still there but the other male was gone. His shoulders slumped and guilt filled him. He had hurt Rin so bad and he didn't deserve to talk or be friends with him again. He did need to say one last thing to Rin before they stopped talking. He needed to apologise for what he did.

He and Rin might not ever be close again but he had to at least try.

The next time swim practice was on, [name] waited in the locker room for his ex boyfriend. He sat down on one of the benches and rested his chin on his hand, having a little conversation with each of his teammates before they left.

Rin arrived around ten minutes later and he jumped up, a nervous smile on his face as he approached him. "Um, hey Rin." He greeted. "Could we talk for a second?"

He received a harsh glare back. "Didn't you hear what I said before? I don't want you anywhere near me. So, no we can't talk." He snapped, moving past him.

"I just wanted to say sorry." He said quickly, turning with Rin. "For what I did to you in high school. I was a dick... I am a dick and I'm stupid and dumb. I-I never should have hurt you and you deserved so much better than me."

Rin stayed silent and let him talk.

"I know I don't deserve even your friendship but... I want you to know that I would love for us to be friends again and if it takes the rest of my life for you to forgive me than that's okay because what you do deserve is someone who will try... and treat you right."

"Why even be my friend again? You know I will never trust you again and every time I look at you, I see that scene of you telling me you don't want me anymore and running off with Haru." Rin shook his head and opened his locker. "I don't think we can be friends... or that I'll ever forgive you for what you did."

"I understand." [name] nodded his head, a sad smile on his face. "And you're right but unless you tell me right now that you never want to talk to me again, I won't stop trying."

Did he want [name] to stop trying? He pursed his lips, not looking at him. "Don't put me on the spot. I can't think about this right now." It was too much in too little time.

"Okay. I'll leave you alone to get changed." He paused. "I really am sorry." Losing you was the biggest mistake I ever made. He couldn't say the last bit. That really would upset Rin.

As the weeks passed, Rin stayed his usual cold self to the other male and [name] understood that it was going to take a lot more than a couple weeks for them to be friends again. He had to wonder though, if he ever had the chance to be his lover again.

And if he did have that chance, he promised he would never hurt Rin again.
