3 YEARS AGO, OCTOBER
*This episode takes place three years ago, before any of the gang was famous.*
Afternoon
[public highschool]
*It was junior year for Nancy, and senior year for Joey. She was 17. Her and Joey walked out of class as the bell rang. Nancy was holding some books in her hand while Joey was barely holding anything.*
Joey: Can I come over tonight?
Nancy: I would let you, but I have Anderson's test tomorrow.
Joey: Oh. So, I'll help you study.
*She looked at him oddly.*
Nancy: Please, Joey doesn't study.
Joey: Okay it's weird when you talk about me in the third person.
Nancy: Well it's true!
Joey: Nance...
Nancy: I'm sorry. But this test is like, really important.
Joey: That's what you say about every test. Why do you care so much about school and grades?
Nancy: Because your future depends on it.
Joey: Not really. Lots of people are way successful, that never even went to college. And I bet you'll be one of them.
*She cackled.*
Nancy: Over my dead body! If I don't go to college, it's only because I died.
Joey: Come on, with your voice, you'll be winning grammy's before you carry a degree.
Nancy: Lies.
*Steven walked up to them.*
Steven: Hey guys! Nance you ready to go study? I just picked up my books from the library.
Joey: Seriously? This guy?
Nancy: He actually takes studying seriously! I told you, no!
*Steven playfully and softly pushed Joey. Joey laughed and pushed back.*
Nancy: Bye!
*She leaned in and kissed Joey, and then grabbed Steven's hand so they could run to her car.*
That Same Time
[far away, in another state]
*Nina lived in a great big house, her parents were successful at what they do. She wasn't spoiled or anything, but she always had it pretty good. Young Nina was sitting on her bed with tears, fiddling with her hands. Her mom, May, walked in softly. *
May: Honey, can I come sit?
*Nina didn't respond. May sat next to her.*
May: Honey. I know this is a lot to take in, and I get that. But I want you to know, that nothing is going to change-
*Nina stood up.*
Nina: Everything is going to change!
May: Nina!
Nina: You don't get it!
May: We still love you just the same!
Nina: That's not the point! You don't love each other!
May: That's not true, I love your father very much but honey sometimes things happen.
*Nina started to cry again.*
Nina: So?! If you love each other can't you just work through them?!
May: We've tried for over a year now and-
Nina: So you've been lying to me for a whole year?!
May: Absolutely not! You're father and I were just... not meant to be together.
