The Next Day (after last episode)
[the hospital]
*The hospital was cold, gray, and sad. Nancy layed on the bed, with tubes and tapes all over her. Nathan held her hand as her eyes fluttered open. She smiled as soon as she saw his face. However, his head was on the bed, too, with his eyes shut. She shook him awake, and his head sprung up.*
Nancy: Sorry to wake you.
Nathan: You're up!
*She giggled, but stopped when she felt a sharp pain in her stomach, and inhaled. He sat up straight to make sure she was okay. She put her hand on her stomach, only to realize how small it was. She moved the covers and sheets out of the way and lifted her hospital gown to uncover a big mark with stitches on her stomach. She gasped and started to cry in fear, shock, and pain.*
Nancy: Oh...
Nathan: Hey, hey, ssshhh, it's okay. Hey, Nance. Everything is okay.
Nancy: W- what happened? I don't remember the-
Nathan: I know, it's okay. Calm down. Shhh.
*He squeezed her hand. She eventually calmed down and went silent with tears on her cheeks. She looked at him, desperate for answers.*'
Nancy: Where is she?
Nathan: She's okay.
Nancy: She's not in me?
Nathan: No.
*Nancy was loaded up on drugs and painkillers.*
Nancy: Why? Where did she go?
Nathan: She's here. The hospital.
Nancy: What happened?
Nathan: She... she's not well, Nance. She's premature. They're not sure if she'll make it.
*Nancy couldn't comprehend his words. She didn't respond, or even react. She just stared into space. Her cheeks and eyes were red, but her hands and lips were pale white. The doctor knocked on the door with one hand, and held a clipboard in the other. He walked in.*
Doctor: Good to see you're up. How are you?
Nathan: She's in shock.
Doctor: What have you told her?
Nathan: Nothing yet. Just that the baby isn't well.
Doctor: Nancy, when you arrived at the hospital, we found something called chorioamnionitis. It's an infection of the placenta and the amniotic fluid. We had to deliver the baby early to have the highest chances of survival. Therefore, she's premature. She's in the NICU, and is expected to stay there for a few weeks. Everything is looking up right now, even though things are so bad. But it could've been worse. These infections can cause brain damage, pneumonia, or even loss of life. Your little girl is strong, and we hope she'll get through this.
*He rubbed her shoulder then walked out.*
That Same Time
[the plaza]
*Blake and Ashton were sitting at the coffee shop, discussing their plan.*
Ashton: Now, I only know Jo and Tucker. But you, you know them all.
Blake: Not anymore. I haven't even talked to Nancy since the wedding. I wonder how she's doing.
Ashton: That doesn't matter! You have a way in.
Blake: And how is that?
*Ashton picked up Blake's left hand and pointed to the ring.*
Ashton: Don't you have to return something?
*Blake swiftly put her hand back down and looked around, embarrassed.*
