Nico grabs Tyler's wrist and fear rushes through him.
But he can't pull away.
The man on the floor-no, Clancy- speaks.
"Leave him alone, Nicholas," Clancy says.
Nico nods to one of the other red-cloaked bishops-Tyler isn't completely sure which one, but he wants to say it's Keons.
The bishop leans down and slaps Clancy in the face.
Hard.
Tyler winces.
Nico-or is it Nicholas? Tyler wonders-grips his wrist so hard, its painful.
"This man," Nico hisses in Tyler's ear, "was found outside the city of Dema. You know what that means, don't you?"
Tyler doesn't say anything. But he can feel his heart racing.
"Don't you?" Nico asks again.
Tyler shakes his head.
"I think you do," Nico says quietly. Dangerously. "I'm only going to ask once more. And I want you to tell me."
Tyler looks around the room desperately. He meets Clancy's eye.
The man shakes his head.
Tyler swallows. But he mutters, "N-no."
"What did you say?" Nico asks.
And then, miraculously, Tyler sees Josh appear.
Josh scoffs. "He knows exactly what you said, that [this word was censored by the author] piece of [use your imagination for what he called Nico if you must. It wasn't very polite, so I'm not going to put it in here. Was it true? Well...okay, yes. But let's all refrain from swearing in the comments as well. Thanks]."
Josh must be really upset if he's actually swearing.
"I can't stay here long," Josh says quietly, "But promise you won't tell him anything. Promise me, Tyler!"
Tyler doesn't make any promises.
Out of the corner of his eye he sees Josh disappear.
"What did you say?" Nico asks.
He shakes Tyler roughly and Tyler knows that if he continues displeasing the bishop, he will get a lot worse than that.
Part of him wants to cower, to just give the answer Nico wants to hear. But...another part of him wants to resist.
For once he actually gives in to that part.
"I-I said," Tyler begins. "N-no."
[What???? Did you see that one coming? Yeah, me neither. :)]
How's Nico gonna react? Hint: he probably won't be happy (but you probably could have guessed that).
