"Come with me..."
The bishop leads them into a dark, dark hallway.
It's rather unsettling, the lack of light, especially compared to the dazzling, blinding neon lights nearly everywhere else.
And he knows it.
They start to grow scared, all of them...
He can sense their fear and it invigorates him.
He senses their fear, their silent, silent fear.
For none of them say anything.
Of course they don't.
They have been taught well...
As he was.
He allows himself a rare moment to remember.
Things were not always like this.
He was once like them, alone in a strange place, afraid.
Not now.
No, of course not now.
Now, he has everything he could have ever wanted.
But...
Yes.
Yes, indeed.
There was a place left open, and he took it.
His thoughts flash backwards, towards years and years before now, when he was a different person, in the opposite place as he is now.
In their place, weak and powerless...
But offered something great.
As all of them would be, if they showed promise.
Yes.
For eventually, not yet, but someday, he would follow the glorious path that was laid out before him, because he knew it to be true.
Knew it and would do anything to make those who doubted see.
Because it was what he had been taught, and what those who came before him-those whose souls would forever be remembered because of what they had the bravery to do-he would do it.
And be grateful in the knowledge that he would be saved.
The knowledge he had tried to fight, once, many, many years before, when he had been yong and he had been ignorant and foolish.
But they had made him see reason.
And so he would help pass it along to these poor, misguided souls whose eyes reflected the few neon lights in the otherwise dark room.
He would make them see.
For this was what Dema stood for.
Making these lost souls turn away from their false ideas that their fleeting lives could ever hold any purpose.
Making them realize.
No matter what it took.
Even if it took pain and suffering and struggle, they would see.
Otherwise, and he would never admit this out loud, the whole city would fall apart.
Anything at all that distracted from the glorious city, the wonderful religion that could save them all, it could not be allowed.
It wouldn't do to see people rebelling from the truth.
Not at all.
