Why is he afraid?

Why is he gripped with a feeling that something is horribly, horribly wrong?

Because something  is wrong, a voice seems to whisper in his ear.

That-

It can't be right.

Every instinct inside of him is telling him not to believe it, and he tries.

He tries so hard to shake that feeling.

So hard.

But it stays, stubbornly refusing to leave him alone.

Until eventually, he finds himself wondering.

Wondering...

Then he starts running.

The uncertainty is killing him.

Please, let me be wrong...

No.

Oh, please, not this...

Anything but this.

Josh finds himself staring at a pair of red eyes he'd hoped he'd never see again.

"Hello," his best friend's worst enemy tells him, smiling sinisterly. "It's so good to see you again, Joshua."

Josh is gripped by a strange chill.

Hardly anyone ever calls him that.

So it's more than a little unsettling.

"Leave him alone," he says, but his voice doesn't sound particularly threatening.

"I don't think I will," Blurryface says.

And then, with a jolt, Josh realizes.

He realizes whose unconcious-oh, don't be dead, don't be dead-body Blurry is holding so tightly.

"Y-you didn't-"

"Oh, don't worry," those terrible red eyes gleam in the darkness and Josh is struck by how wrong this is, seeing his friend but also not, not at all. "She isn't dead. Not yet."

Not yet...?

"But..." Before Josh can even react, Blurry takes out a knife.

His hands are black...Josh notices in that moment. That's not good.

"She will be," Blurry hisses, pressing the knife against Mari's throat, "Unless you can do exactly what I tell you to."

"N-no," Josh says, "Please-please don't...don't hurt her."

"Very well," Blurry says, and instead, points the knife towards-

Josh's heart seems to stop, because-

Because...

Blurry is pointing the knife at...

No. Not himself.

Josh refuses to call Blurry part of his friend, even if he is, a part Tyler has no control over.

So, then...

Blurry is pointing the knife at Tyler's body.

Josh his simply stunned for a moment, unable to even talk.

"You wouldn't..."

"No. He wouldn't. I would. I will. I'll kill them both if I have to."

"Why?"

That's all he can think to say.

Blurry laughs.

"Why? Because I want to see everything you've worked for ruined. Because I want to show you that your pathetic attempts at thwarting us will never work, because, in the end, we will come for you, and everyone you care about."

"He won't let you win," Josh says, hoping it's true.

"He won't let me?" Blurry laughs. "I've already won. Do you not believe me? Where do you think your friend is now? Where do you think she is?"

"T-that's impossible," Josh says.

"No," Blurry smiles. "It's not."

Blurry sets the knife down, then meets Josh's eyes.

"Now. Let me make one thing clear. If you try to tell anyone about me, I'll kill them, too. If you try to ask them for help, I'll kill them. You, you are on your own. I don't want to hear your voice right now, so nod if you understand. And don't say anything else until I tell you to. I mean anything. Do you understand?"

Distantly Josh wonders if he's ever been this afraid.

Even his time in the city seems like nothing compared to what he's witnessing right now.

But he nods.

What else can he do?

He tries to kep the tears he feels forming from falling, and hopes, prays, that somehow, somehow, he'll find a way out of this mess.

Blurry's cold eyes tell him that no, no he won't.
