The two red hooded figures very nearly collide in the dingy hallway.
One is shorter, but it is barely noticable. The difference is but a few inches.
The shorter one makes the first move.
Grabs the other's arm, leaving behind black streaks.
Nicholas.
A slight, almost imperceptible nod.
Keons.
Neither of their lips are moving, but their thoughts are communicated perfectly across their minds.
Keons can sense the elder, senior bishop's most recent memories.
He got away?
So much anger is in that thought.
Nico tries to defend himself against the younger bishop.
The rebels tricks were more powerful than we anticipated-
He hopes he will gain some sympathy from Keons but he gets none.
They must be stopped. What will you do to try to stop them?
It takes several moments for Nico to formulate a response.
The watchers-
What about them? Keons asks sharply.
Keons, I understand you're upset- Nico tries to manipulate the younger bishop's emotions, make him understand all of this was truly neccessary.
Upset doesn't begin to cover it, Keons replies, trying and failing to cover up the level of anger he feels, the anger he feels is beginning to consume him.
It was neccessary for him to die, Nico tells him forcibly. It was neccessary.
He was raised here, Keons replies. He was one of us.
Was, Keons. Was. The moment he left, he had branded himself as a traitor. Much like another I can name.
Keons startles, trying to formulate another argument. He might have learned his lesson.
But he might not have, Nico points out. He might have remained in his sins forever.
Keons asks the question that has been weighing on his mind. Could we have saved him?
Keons, Keons, Keons, Nico begins to chastise in a somewhat sympathetic tone of voice. I wish we could have, I truly do. But-
He can't bring himself to say Tyler's name, not so soon after he betrayed the bishops that took him in.
Nico takes a deep breath, trying to calm himself.
Keons can sense his distress.
He was showing such promise.
I know, Nico tells him. Perhaps its not too late, if we can find the rebels.
Yes, Keons agrees, They may be able to resist while in the world of Trench, but here in Dema, they become susceptible once more.
That seems to reassure the head bishop.
Keons.
Nico finally removes his hand from the other bishop's arm.
The black streaks still remain, but Nico's thoughts disappear from Keons' mind, and vice versa.
Finally they speak aloud.
"We must find the rebels. We must bring them back , before it is too late," Nico says. "Keons. Tell the rest of the nine."
The younger bishop nods and they both continue on their way, acting as though nothing had happened.
I literally forgot why I included this scene for a second and was just blanking. Also idk if Keons is younger but it feels like he would be I guess. If anything I thought it would be interesting to write from his POV.
