"Mari! Mari?" someone's screaming her name.

Why?

Why can't they just leave her alone?

She stares at a fixed, blank point on the wall, feeling her mind grow numb.

She doesn't understand it.

She either feels nothing or she feels too much, too much.

There's no balance to it.

None at all.

But she ignores the screams, ignores it all.

Time to shut the world out for a little longer.

Fortunately, she has practice.

And she will put it to use.

There is just no telling whether or not choosing to open up will really be worth it or not.

She's pretty sure it won't be worth it.

So she closes herself off.

It doesn't matter.

It can all wait.

Because now, in this moment, she is not here.

She does not exist.

And nothing-nothing-will make her soul feel anything so she doesn't bother trying to feel something.

It will backfire.

She knows it.

Somehow, it always does.

The world, it seems, was never on her side.
