He finds himself awake again, sitting on the edge of the reality he knows, wondering and watching, feeling as though he can see through all the cracks holding it all together.
Just another day of living...
He doesn't know how it will go and yet he's afraid of how it might...
But either way he's interrupted from his swirling thoughts by someone saying his name.
"Tyler. Tyler?"
For several moments he doesn't react at all.
Few enough people have spoken his name recently he doesn't make he connection right away between the sounds she says to the thing that represents who he is.
But eventually he remembers, if not the entirety of who he is, that small sliver that represents part of him.
It grounds him back to earth, away from those thoughts that swirl through his mind, a storm of negativity.
It helps him to reorient himself with reality, chases away those dark clouds, for a moment.
He looks up.
And immediately regrets it.
It's Jenna.
Of course it is.
He doesn't want to have to face her after everything.
"Can I sit here?" she asks, gesturing to the space next to him.
He doesn't say anything, but she goes ahead and sits down anyway.
She looks at him, but he pointedly avoids her gaze.
"Is there anything I can do to help you?" she asks.
Tyler shakes his head.
She sighs a little bit, but passes him something anyway.
It's a yellow flower, like the ones he's seen all throughout Trench.
Broken memories flash through his mind but he does his best to shake them away.
He takes the flower and stares at the petals, thinking of what they represent among the banditøs.
Light.
Hope.
It's not all lost.
He lets the flower fall to the ground.
Jenna doesn't make any more attempts at conversation.
She just sits there beside him, silently.
Tyler suddenly becomes hyperaware of himself and the relatively small space between his-he shakes head, trying to clear his thoughts-between him and Jenna.
Part of his mind is screaming so loudly at him, he's amazed he doesn't actually hear it with his ears.
She doesn't care about you! Now go, just get away from her!
He doesn't.
For some reason he finds himself glancing in her direction.
Then she glances in his direction.
They still don't say anything to each other, but they don't need to.
Mostly Tyler thinks that words will simply get in the way of things as they so often did, twisted with false meanings and deceptions and misunderstandings.
So he just watches as Jenna reaches for his hand.
But he realizes with a jolt that it's the one that was, and somehow isn't injured anymore.
He winces all the same, remembering how it got there and what he did.
Jenna notices.
"Do you trust me?" she asks, breaking the silence that's settled over them.
Tyler finds himself nodding and is amazed when he realizes he actually means it.
He does trust her.
He does, and that fills his entire soul with a kind of lightness he doesn't know how to explain.
And then...and then she holds his hand, and he wishes she hadn't because he's afraid she'll remember because he certainly doesn't-
But he can't.
He realizes the mark is still mostly gone but still somewhat there.
Jenna realizes, and she, says, half-sighing, half-speaking, "I'm sorry."
"Don't," Tyler interrupts her. "Just...please..."
He finds himself crying and wipes the tears away. A small feeling of relief fills him when he notes the yellow fabric.
"...Please," Tyler says, "Don't apologize. It's not your fault. Not at all."
Jenna nods like she understands but Tyler is afraid she doesn't.
She places her hand on his arm though, and its not an unpleasant feeling.
She tilts his palm up so she can see the faded mark."
"I'm proud of you," Jenna says. "I'm proud of you for being able to survive."
[Not everyone survives. I'm proud of you for surviving. -Tyler Joseph...yeah that's a real quote by him look it up if you don't believe me its kinda awesome :D]
Tyler doesn't reply.
Part of him is still denying that he heard those words come out of her mouth.
She's proud of him. How?
How does she not reflect his own doubts and fears back at him like everyone else he has been around in recent years?
Like he does to himself with even meaning to? Without wanting to?
Jenna say something else to him. "I know that wasn't easy."
Oh, you do? You do? his brain screams.
She says something else but Tyler doesn't hear it. The war inside him is being waged far too loud for him to hear anything that is taking place outside of his mind.
But he is completely aware of what she does next.
She leans forward and kisses him gently.
....Ohhhhhhhh.
Okay...
She really needs to stop doing that; he doesn't think his soul can take it.
Because-
Actions sometimes spoke louder than words, and-
Yeah, his brain says, she totally loves you.
Needless to say he loses track of reality even more for several moments.
Jenna leans backwards and he can see that she's smiling.
She hands him another yellow flower and this time he doesn't let it fall.
"Do you want me to leave you alone now?" Jenna asks.
Tyler twists the flower petals together.
"No," he says finally. "I need you to stay."
So she does.
And it makes Tyler happy.
:))) happy mostly. jyler stuff...aww 💝honestly some of the stuff they say though and he thinks, that's based on things that have happened before, believe it or not.
anyway, i will say goodbye for now, and i will see you on the next page.
